Trailer winch question and tilt question? 1st timer.

You shouldn't need to have the prop spinning to load the boat on the trailer. A little momentum in neutral should do it. If it doesn't go all the way up the trailer then hook the winch line and crank it the rest of the way. Running the outdrive with it trimmed up past the stop will eventually...

23-24 foot vs 26-28 foot pros and cons?

I have a Rinker Captiva 232 BR. It rides and handles very nice in my opinion. It has the Mag 350 with a B3. My previous boat was a Larson SEI 206 with a 210 HP 350 and an Alpha drive. The Rinker actually uses a bit less gas than the Larson did, probably because of the efficiency of the DP and...

    Bravo 3 stuck in reverse

He stated they always use OEM Mercruiser parts. I guess any manufacturer can make a bad part once in a while. The total cost for the cable was less than $170.

    Bravo 3 stuck in reverse

So the shop said the lower shift cable was binding up. It wasn't broken but he said it wasn't "getting the kind of motion it needed." They replaced it and also changed the routing. Since it was new 15 months ago they didn't charge me any labor, just for the cable. That seems pretty decent to me...

    Bravo 3 stuck in reverse

The drive was just removed last spring and all the bellows replaced as well as a new lower shift cable installed. This was done by a shop and everything was working well after that. When this happened Sunday I dropped the boat off at the same shop hoping they could fix it. Pulling the drive is a...

    Bravo 3 stuck in reverse

I have a 2004 Rinker with a Merc Mag 350 and a B3. I was manuvering at idle speed around the dock. I shifted to reverse briefly. I then shifted to forward but it remained in reverse. No amount of moving the shift lever would change that. I had to turn the engine off to get the boat stopped. With...

    E15 and no REC gas

I don't think there's any treatment that will help you with E15. With some newer boats using E15 voids the warranty. It doesn't say "unless you also add . . " Why can't you find non-ethanol gas? Pure-gas.org lists close to 17,000 stations in the US and Canada that sell non-ethanol. Are you in...

    Battery Question

Dual purpose batteries are very common and have been around for decades. They are quite popular on boats and work fairly well. They won't quite deliver the CCA (or MCA) of a same size starter battery and they aren't quite as heavy duty as a "real" deep cycle. However, as long as they deliver...

Wonder if I should go IO again or go OB?

We have 3 kids. We go boating with other families with kids. We practically live on the swim platform and sun pad. The kids are always jumping in the water, getting on and off water toys, etc. The OB would be totally in the way and block the view. I do most of my own maintenance and I don't mind...

    Stereo Upgrade

If you want good sound, particularly loud, then you NEED an amp. It's not just to be super loud. The extra power of a good amplifier helps with fidelity even at low volume levels. If you're going to play the stereo with the engine off for very long at all you really should get a second battery...

    Faria tachometer?

I've had my tach repaired by Faria twice. The second time it was under warranty since it had been less then a year since the first repair. They have been easy to work with. It beats trying to find a used one to match.

    Tahoe boat

I've never owned a Tahoe but I would put them fairly near the bottom tier of boat brands. Even so, if you are looking for something inexpensive and this one has been well cared for it may be the boat for you.

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

$84,000?! There's no way. I just ordered a new 2022 GMC 3500 dually crew cab 4wd diesel. It's only $57,000. How on earth are people paying these prices for vehicles?

    Rinker differences

Misterbreeze, I also need new Canvas for my 2004 Rinker. What supplier did you find. That only place I can find mine listed says they aren't taking orders.

    When To Dewinterize

Depends where you are. I'm in western Virginia. I've been winterizing my I/Os for about 20 years now. Early on I'd get all excited for a warm spring day in March and fire the boat up on muffs in the yard. Evey time about 2 weeks later the lows would be down in the teens and I'd be draining the...

    Buying a boat

If your handy and mechanical and can repair and maintain a boat yourself it might be a good one. If you will need to pay someone to do everything including basic maintenance and winterizing then it's not a good choice. As noted, those old drive components are hard to find mechanics and parts...

How to get boat launched daily when Travel Trailer camping?

I don't understand why the boat can't be simply carried from the campsite to the lake in the back of the truck. Assemble at campsite, lift it into the truck, haul to launch ramp, lift it out of truck to the water. What's the problem?

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

My sister didn't like skiing behind a jet boat. She said the water was "soft" and didn't support the skis as well. I would guess this is due to arreation by the jet. I don't like noise so I wouldn't pick a jet. I'm firmly an I/O guy. I don't want that OB sticking up in the middle of our lounge/...

Kind of a weird question on a/c for boat

What size wire and how long a run to your dock? You may not even be able to pull 15 amps with acceptable voltage drop. Do you have or need an inverter? A Magnum hybrid inverter can use battery power to support the AC and ref. when they cycle on and then recharge when they cycle off.
