Clasic 50 lack of air to carburetors?

Interesting comment. Here I have a "dirt dobber" problem. I get them by the thousands durning the summer and you won't believe where I find the nests. I have been concerned about them getting under my cowl and in my intake manifold to do their dirty work, thinking what their decaying nest's...

Need help deciding!! Wakeboard boat vs bow rider!?!

We had a 1972 18' Caravelle tri-hull bow rider with a 125 Johnson (engine rated HP) with 4 kids. We didn't need more for any kind of water activity and it didn't cost an arm and leg to go to the lake for a days entertainment (or camping out) for the whole family, nor a 3/4 ton PU to pull it...

    Propeller assistance

"45hp Montgomery Ward motor".......bet it was made by West Bend like Sears Elgin and Ted Williams initially, later going with McCullough for a mfgr. So West bend went to Chrysler (of which I had a 55 of that same design and their 3 cyl 85 design in 1971) which went on to become the Mercury's...

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

Couple of answers to that. 1. If you are going to trade up or sell a non-titled boat or engine, lots of luck! 2. TPWD officers patrol waters and pick and choose their targets to inspect for different reasons. First thing they want to see is your ID, fishing license if you are fishing, and...

    Propeller assistance

Well having some whoopie in front of you helps. I remember the difference in my abilities the first time I got behind something that could pull. I learned to ski (on 2) behind my 14' wooden boat with an 18 Evinrude Fastwin...friend and I taking turns driving. I was about 15 and used mama's...

    Propeller assistance

You have boat or engine problems. I easily slalomed at 250# behind an 18' Caravelle bow rider running as high as 35 MPH at times (ouch when I fell off) with wife driving plus 4 kids and gear powered by an engine rated 125 Johnson (1972) with a 13+17P SST prop with only a tilt bracket....no PTT...

    trailer dolly?

I have an idler wheel on the front of the trailer that I use inside the garage on the concrete floor. If I want to take the boat outside for a run up or whatever, I have a retired DR Versa Pro ZT riding mower with the deck removed upon which I welded a trailer hitch/ball to the right front...

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

Well, its like thieves targeting a neighborhood.....they usually pick the "easy pickins" so one tries to make their place the least desirable. The PIA of title transfer may be just the ticket to make the difference.

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

Yes it is and since they separated from state funding many years ago, funding themselves, and have expanded their services to the the masses, they are doing quite well as an independent entity. Its not all about the money. Theft is a huge problem and they are trying to control it.

    Need torque for prop nut

That tells it like it is. Since my engines don't use the bushing, I had no reference to the higher torque. Thank you sir!

    91 ranger Comanche NEED HELP

Nope on the wood. I have a 1989 Ranger catalog and no wood back then either. One of the finest boats you can buy for a reasonable price. Forrest Wood, Flipping Arkansas. Been building them one boat at a time since back in the '60s when Bass Boats first came out. I had a 1989...

    Need torque for prop nut

I suppose plastic hubs that require high torque have mounting instructions shipped with the props. 2:1 difference surely would dictate alerting the purchaser I'd think, especially if the person, like me, was used to the 55 spec..

    Need torque for prop nut

Well you have me wondering now. The only threaded nuts I had back then was on my 25 hp Wizard....a Western Auto engine line made by Mercury. It was a spin off from the Mark 30. It had the spin on nut and a dozen or so tabs you bent over to lock the nut to the prop shaft. All the OMCs of the...

    Motor opinion

On exhaust timing, thinking back to the Evinrude Triump looper engine and their selecting 3 cylinders because the exhaust pulses used to make the loop work were timed just right, and that being the reason (one of the reasons) for the late arrival of the OMC V4 cylinder engines to the looping...

    Need torque for prop nut

I can't argue with that. Last cotter pin outboard I had/used, I bought new in 1959...an 18 HP Evinrude Fastwin. Had a straight shaft with a hole in it for the "shear (not drive) pin". 3 blade aluminum prop had a rubber slip hub with a metal indent to fit over the pin. After installing the...

Update on my electric fuel pump installation.

I fed it some fuel when it wanted it most...after sitting 3 months. If you use them every day, no big deal, they kick right off but sitting, things dry out.....at least mine do. I got this idea that maybe I needed a water separator pre fuel filter since I have a 24 gallon tank and want to keep...

    Motor opinion

Well I'm glad we got this ironed out. Glad to have multiparticipants on here to get it right. Certainly helps the guy asking the question sense he deserves the correct answer. Course my inquisitive mind is asking one final question....why is the V6 compression passing the bar at a 10# lower...

    Motor opinion

Before you take much stock in your compression numbers, you need to clean up your cylinders. I don't know if the EFI Magnum has pressure backed piston rings or not (like my engines mentioned) but if so they could be carboned up and not fully expanding to make the compression seal they were...

Update on my electric fuel pump installation.

Yes its a flow through. Yes I fused it.....actually the fuse makes a nice, easily accessed on-off switch for maintenance actions when I don't want it running. Yes the engine system wasn't touched.

Forgot to trim up while jacking up trailer

If the skeg isn't bent you haven't hurt anything. If you did bend it, it will make your steering squirrely and will have to be straightened. Non impact type pressure hasn't been a problem with my boats and there hve been instances...like you forget to tilt up before you pull up the ramp and...
