Using a Manual jack plate to fit a 25” shaft motor

Recalling the "big guns" on here years ago said 1" rise for 6# of setback so 10", about 1 1/2 inch inherent in the setback so you could/should put her on and set it at 3 1/2 inches up for starters and then adjust as necessary. How you boat will come to play in that....the faster you run your...

    Engine Mount Trolling Motors

Slightly off topic but your comment about smoking people out, that was before 50:1 fuel mix....24:1...quart of "motor oil" to 6 gallons of "gasoline". Somebody else will have to jump on whether or not you can decrease your oil ratio when using today's TC-W3 (Two Cycle-Watercraft 3rd iteration)...

    Bearing Buddies

My 2002 Crestliner has a Heritage custom trailer and probably the company that rebranded with the Crestliner name to match the boat. I had never seen anything like what I saw at the end of the axle for a water proofing device. I always used after market Bearing Buddies on previous boat...

    Trailer brake system opinions

I had surge brakes on one trailer. Single axle, ample tongue weight...at least 500#, 18' fiberglass, tri hull, deep V, bowrider, lots of glass so weight made for a good ride on the water. Tow vehicle a 1972 Chevy stationwagon. Recalling, I think the tongue of the trailer was extended the...

    Prop ventilation?

Besides the other good ideas, if OMC is like Mercury in that HP range the props suited for it are between 13 and 14" diameter. Divide either by 2 and you wind up with a number larger than 6...your reported depth of your prop shaft......but if your measurement was at the centerline of the boat...

3 Blade or 4 blade prop?

To my surprise, adding a blade and dropping an inch of pitch going to the Solace did little to drop my WOT RPMs while enjoying the rest of the reason for buying the prop. Whats funny is that I dropped WOT RPMs a couple hundred in the process but still got that performance. Possibly the 3 blade...

Evinrude 130HP switching from 3 blade to 4 blade

I run like you do. I replaced a 3 blade Laser II with the Solas 4 blade dropping one inch in pitch. The solace performed beautifully and I have no aspirations to take it off. Go for it.

    Mercury vs Evinrude Interchangeability?

LAMO, years later finding out just why my OMCs were eating dust....er ah wake......but it sold engines and he didn't have a problem dyno testing his engines and meeting spec!

125 hp on an 18 ft tri hill

The real answer to proper prop height has to do with numerous things and usually has to be "tweaked" to get optimum performance. Normally boat mfgrs. setup their transom for 15, 20, 0r 25" skeg lengths on the outboards which will be attached. Considering that your hull shape at the transom...

    Exhaust smells like paint thinner

I bought some freshly delivered to the retailer 91 octane gasoline the other day and while filling my 5 gallon cans, the fumes just plain stunk. Never smelled gas that smelled like that.

    Mercury vs Evinrude Interchangeability?

Well back in the 1950 era plus and minus, OMC prided itself on "quiet" operation while their Mercury counterparts were blasting by them making all sorts of racket.....I was an OMC guy back then, getting passed by green and grey Mercs, but years later recovered my sanity. My current Mercury is...

125 hp on an 18 ft tri hill

Funny, the day you posted this I went to my archives and found that I had provided at least one lengthy reply to your Avatar on this subject because I bought a new 1972 18' Caravelle open bow tri-hull with a 125 Johnson and elaborated on the performance including a trick we performed at a...

    Vibration TurningPoint 4 blade

I have a couple in the 13" diam. range, in 17-19P. I did expect vibration considering the two types of blades but didn't notice any.

Is on deck fuel tank legal?

Well back in the day when smaller outboard boats had a couple of 6 gallon tanks for fuel, they weren't really on deck, more like under the deck. I suppose with a CC and inadequate space under the console, one might opt for on deck storage. Ask the water cops seems to be the right answer....on...

    Painting Aluminum

Aircraft alum. parts get Alodine which is a chemical etch of the surface....and Zinc Chromate is a primer paint for aluminum. I never Alodined large parts as the process was to dip a raw component in a solution for a period of time, let the acid cut into the surface and remove. ZC on the other...
