yeah why use the spark gap tester he already owns when you can become the path to ground.

2005 Mercruiser MPI 5.0L misfiring(?) when in gear, idles fine

Look for signs of arching in the cap, also if you get spark into the cap and not out of cap to plugs or wires. Just the gap tester you have- should jump consistently 3/8" 9nice blue spark not orange) or so. Testo it off the coil wire , then you should get the same size gap jump off the plug...

WOT RPM Low. MAG350 MPI B3

Couple of things I would look at - first yes of course it could be the linkage make sure it is opening all the way Verify firing order and the the indexing of the distributor. There is a procedure that Mercuiser has for this if you google it or find it in the manual. Compression test could be...

Throttle movement but no increase in engine rpms

Did it ever run at a proper WOT RPM or did this happen concurrent with the prop swap ? In addition to the compression check would verify you are getting full spark advance

2005 Mercruiser MPI 5.0L misfiring(?) when in gear, idles fine

Agreed probably the button in top of cap is not making contact with rotor. either that or cap is cracked and leaking spark to ground. so unless the dist is not longer turning would think cap and rotor need looking into

2001 Chaparral 233 Sunesta Single Prop Size?

Not sure of what the exact wot rpm range is for your engine but would shoot for 4800-5000

    1972 Mercruiser 165.

I I figured it was haul it away or pay more if you leave what you dont want... I would look to see if water got down the carbs as its likely they were not covered as long as it has been sitting

    1972 Mercruiser 165.

yes looks like the OMC version of the same Chevy straight 6. They were made in a few displacements and HP over the years, but any of them would be drop in. if twins not sure if one may be reverse rotation, but look to have closed cooling which is good. By the looks of the picture they do you...

Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

I dont think Mercruiser makes a seal kit . Frist things first start with a pressure test if you drive is like mine the only seal that was age deteriorated was the shift shaft seal. I picked up a fishing line on the prop seal and went through the whole drive replacing all seals. Other than the...

2001 Chaparral 233 Sunesta Single Prop Size?

Would be guessing cost of replacement vs single prop vs age of boat.

2001 Chaparral 233 Sunesta Single Prop Size?

If I had to take a stab I would say start with a 19" pitch see where your WOT rpm land and go from there. This may be cheating a little towards the holeshot or loaded down side but should be in the ballpark It would be great if you could find a prop shop or dealer to let you try a couple as...

4.3 l mercruiser one piece exhaust manifold temp senor install

Temp has nothing to do with how these fail. they are double wall so drilling in and JB welding the bung is a fools errand . Aren’t there a few threaded ports on the manifolds already ? Another t where the cooling water comes in

    3.0L carb bogs out

this would tell me that the idle passages didn't get clean. If you open the idle mix screw does it change things

Alpha I Gen II impeller install.

yes a like #3 is no issue biggest change was original baseplate had a rubber gasket now its a thin metal one

    1972 Mercruiser 165.

Nothing directly -a 3.0 is drop in most easily but will make less power. A 3.0 is shorter so front motor mount will need to be moved back. 4.3 is probably the best if there is room in the engine compartment but will require glassing in side motor mounts. the 4.3 replaced the 165 in the merc...

Alpha I Gen II impeller install.

the gasket and lower plate kit are different than was originally used on gen 2 s. nothing different in manual, just replace in correct order. I have had merc tell me to put the metal gasket on dry, mechanic at the place I bought the impeller kit say to use permatex #3 on it, done it both ways...
