    If you are not using a desiccant filter and water filter on the air line , you may be spraying the oil from the hose.

    Drive max RPM is 5500 unless you work on the drives oiling Run a rev limiter , because if you come out of the water (ie airborne), that 383 will grenade the drive when you re-enter the water (BTDT) Your cam determines your RPM and the cam you have is on the edge of reversion - check for it...

    Check your compression. The fact you didn't fill your bilge with water from the exhaust means you bad no water flow A serious overheat to burn up the exhaust hose may have killed the motor
