1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

update on progress, Its been a few weeks as we had a bad ice storm that required us to evacuate from our home for a period of time and when we returned to start cutting up branches and cleaning up. Removed the motor controls from the outboard to remove the center console. Ran into a problem...

    Open Bow Boat Sleeping ideas

I wouldnt use plastic, but you can use whats called a "tarp" in the hunting/backpacking community which is a squarish piece of tent fabric that would protect you from rain/dew and wont be too noisy (plus it has tie downs). Something like this

    1972 Holiday seat replacement

there are lots of options around the PDX area, think outside the box and find a gut who does it on the side. you take a risk, but you may pay less. Send me a PM and I can get you contact info for a guy in the Couve I know does side work.

    Getting started in northern Washington.

Aluminum will handle the rocks better than fiberglass. As for pushing it back it all depends on where you are at. Mud/small gravel is usually the bottom composition, but pushing a small boat 25ft in thick mud sucks (ask me how I know). =-) I use an anchor bungy to put my boat off the...

    Getting started in northern Washington.

Having some experience running up there, you may want to look for a cheaper Arima or similar. they have great floatation and can handle rough seas. You would also need to figure out your going to shore maneuver as a lot of the sound can be quite shallow for a long ways. if you land your...

Bent Transom on Lowe FS175, HELP!

May be worth a trip to your trusted local dealer to see if there is damage to the transom. If so it could be fixed, but I wouldnt want to be out on a body of water and have an issue.

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Still chipping away at things, including removing the copper rod holders the PO put in. He was an older gentleman and I didn’t have the heart to point out the issues with that. Will be neutralizing the gunnel to make sure this won’t continue to be a problem.

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

its actually a 1975 so your close. The PO made the center console himself so its a bit different then most but it will work. Agreed on the 50, im keeping an eye open for a different engine. I have seen your mods and have made some notes, mine wont be a restoration more of a renewal.... =-) I...

Bayliner or Starcraft? V-6 or V-8? Is 20' Too Large To Launch In Fresh Water River (Willamette)

I live a few blocks from the Willamette and your boat should be fine and have plenty of power. Freezing doesn't happen in the Portland area often, and when it does its usually short lived.

Anchor advice needed for rocky and tree bottom lake

agreed, we do actually have quite a bit of sunken logs and such around here. not necessarily standing but sunken along the bottom. I honestly missed the Mumba part and yeah, that probably wouldn't work.

Anchor advice needed for rocky and tree bottom lake

Normally yes, here most boats have them mounted in special carriers to keep them out of the way

Anchor advice needed for rocky and tree bottom lake

You may want to check out a Columbia river style anchor (Link: https://www.anchor-caddie.com/pages/river-anchoring) Basically you use an anchor that has a length of chain attached to it. When you are ready to retrieve the anchor you start the boat, put the buoy out, and drive forward allowing...

    1974 starcraft islander overhaul

If you are going to change your transom, I would highly suggest taking ideas from whats called an Offshore Bracket. Out in the PNW a lot of the new boats are built this way, it leaves a bunch of room for storage/kill boxes/fish coolers/etc. Check out the attached picture, I am sitting on top...

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Well, the weather and water levels were not conducive for duck hunting so I worked on the boat today (don’t worry for me, we have a 107 day duck season). Got the trailer sanded down and mostly painted in rustoleum rust reformer. I need to go back and get a few more areas after taping stuff...

Agreed, and it gives me time to think about "all the things" (ie boat layout and other ideas) before i really dig in.

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Thanks Everyone, Ordered some Rustoleum rust reformer today and I am hoping to get started on getting the trailer squared away. I plan to tackle this first in order to give me time to plan how I am going to attack the boat rebuild. Depending on the weather I hope to be sanding away the surface...

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Oh yes, its not in a good way. once the foam is removed and I clean and look over the bare hull I plan on replacing it. Not sure if I will use wood to replace the transom or plastic (HDPE or something similar).

No, its a 50, it will do for now but wont win any races. Hopefully in the near future I will upgrade to a 4stroke with a higher HP rating but for now this will work.
