    Testing multifunction gauges

Can be tested, but you need a pin-out (schematic) to facilitate testing the individual components

1996 Mercury 150 EFI - Tilt cylinder not holding pressure.

All seals harden and deform overtime. Its not if, it's when...... Doesn't make sense to tear it down and not replaced everything while you have it apart..

Or a bi-pass valve is leaking. Need to tear down and inspect

    Gauges recommendation

Not buying it…. A voltmeter uses a high resistance wire coil to create a stable, magnetic field unaffected by current. The interaction between the magnetic field and a permanent magnet within the gauge causes a pointer (needle) to deflect. In this case, testing ground resistance to determine...

    Gauges recommendation

And the purpose of looking for voltage between battery ground and the ground on gauge? I could see checking the resistance (ohms) but voltage between grounds?

Having both grown up in modest homes, Mrs. Dingbat and I are finding a huge disparity between what we deem "spending wisely" verse our Millennial and Gen Z kid's with 3X the income.

    Can You Wear This Shirt

Ran the drafting department for a number of years before moving over to engineering. Still have a set of staedtler pencils, scales, dry cleaning bag, template sets, etc. Work gave me my mahogany drafting table and stool when they switched over to CAD in the early 80’s. Mrs. Dingbat uses it...

    Seastar hydrolic steering testing

Have never seen a "dirty" hydraulic system. It's always a stuck/sticky valve of some sort or seal blow-by Seals in a hydraulic system are not reusable. If you pulled the caps, the seals need replaced What have you done to resolve the lose of the check valve in your earlier post? Why do you...

Trailer has working running lights, no brake lights or turn signals

Why not? Switching (on/off) inherently causes transients. How much depends on the wattage of the LED and the use, or lack of, an effective suppression scheme in the circuit

Nitrile or viton….watch the durometer. 90 durometer Viton is too hard for a carb gasket https://www.theoringstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=367_2203_98

Trailer has working running lights, no brake lights or turn signals

Ground issue…..turn signals and tail lights require a much more robust (clean) ground due to the power surges. You need to clean the grounds on the individual fixtures.

    Temp sender removal …

My largest customer is a copper, brass and bronze producer…. Brass and bronzes (copper alloys) are a lot tougher than you give them credit for. Think ammunition shell casings., Would be surprised if it’s actually brass. Brass (copper and zinc) doesn’t fair well in marine applications.,

    Temp sender removal …

Don’t need a head…all you’re doing is “shocking” the interface between the screw on the base material to break loose the corrosion bond. Same mechanism as an impact gun. The buddy that showed me the trick uses an air hammer instead of the hammers. Removes the flat head screws used to retain...

    1979 9.8 Carb Bowl

That is an old school compression (seal) gasket. One time use only. Had the same issue in my old 2 stroke golf cart where the orginal gasket is NLA. It took some searching, but was able to find the proper “square” , nitrile seal for the groove. Had to buy a box of 100 (life time supply +)...
