1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

You can still find the rub rail, but it's not cheap. If it's not too far gone, I found the easiest way to reinstall them is soak the rubber in a big 5 gallon bucket or storage tub filled with hot water and some dish soap. It will make it more pliable and lubricated. Feed it into the rail...

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I went with a dedicated ATS 4X rivet gun. I've used a standard air hammer in the past and its fine for setting one or two, but well worth picking up an actual rivet gun if you have several solids to drive. As noted above, center punch the head of the old rivet, drill off the head as you would...

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

Yes, and under the wood there is a tray running from the center console for all your wires and cabling.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I went down this same road with my MR180, only way to do it right is to completely remove the side supports and rear panels. The front deck panels also had solids through the hull. I took the opportunity to purchase me a new rivet gun for setting the solids :) You'll also likely find some...

Terminal blocks, bus bars, and fuse blocks are your friends when it comes to organized wiring.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

They all have foam, just a matter of what kind of foam is in your '82. My '84 had poured foam in the hull and the white Styrofoam board under the gunnels and behind the panels. I'd assume your '82 would be somewhat similar.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I'd personally stay away from the pour in foam and use the foam sheets. If yours is leaking, and has water trapped in the hull, you're likely to find corrosion and possibly even pin holes through the hull where you remove the original saturated foam. Look for spots like the picture attached on...

Nice! How's it sit in the water with the added weight of the Optimax and kicker on the back?

1973 starcraft ss restore in progress

I've always used Helmsman Spar on all my deck boards and just the epoxy on the transoms. They've all been covered with Nautolex as well, and screws and through bolts sealed with 3M5200, so there's the added protection there. I have used epoxy on any wood I have painted as it provides for a nice...

I like contact cement as well, but still mechanically secure the edges with stainless staples.

    New Journey

Yeah, I've now got one complete 115hp with good compression and a complete 115hp and 90hp, both with one bad cylinder. The bad 115hp has one cylinder reading 100psi, so not sure yet if its completely gone, or maybe just a stuck ring. This 90hp was 120-125psi on all but #3. Once I cleared the...

    New Journey

Picked up another TOP over the weekend. Was sitting on an old fiberglass boat that they were trying to get rid of. Pulled the plugs and found cylinder #3 to have a bit of an issue. Unfortunate, but I grabbed it anyways for $100. '84 with the integrated power tilt and a complete set of...

Adding Gunwale Rod Holder to Starcraft Mariner?

Starting on page 13 of my MR180 build in my signature, you'll see pictures of the rod holders I added to my gunnels. I guess I could have referenced those earlier, but now that pictures are back up, I can't seem to find where I saved them all...
