    Thunderbolt IV issue?

The exhaust elbow should be getting all that hot during operation, and the TB IV should have phenolic standoffs that further thermally isolate the unit from heat. Not saying your TB IV isn't the problem...just that it shouldn't be seeing all that much heat, in reality.

Merc 350 sputters, dies, won't restart after heating up

Cool. I'm just saying it's a thing since you had never heard of it. We're not all marine mechanics with decades of experience who know all the marine lingo yet...many of us who are willing to tinker on our boat engines have automotive backgrounds, so we use the terms we know, and are...

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

My brother has a CV-19 with the 455 / berkeley combo but the furthest he's gotten on it is pulling the engine and jet pump, and is about halfway through the gutting process on the hull. He's been too busy to touch it for about a year. But, if interested, send me your contact info in a private...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Re-hung the engine tonight. Too hot to do anything else. I plan to have it running on muffs no later than Sunday evening.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

@Mad Props , good eye, but no plans for it. It's just left over from all the sapele I bought for the restoration. Might be able to remake some trim pieces out of it if I break one on the boat.

Times, they are a-changing. At least they were on the right path!

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks! I wish the stand was mine, but a friend built it and I'm just borrowing it. I told him he needed take me one when he accumulates enough drops to do so. If it had casters it would be complete.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Other gasket was delivered today, so I took pictures while my 12-year-old daughter put the even side together.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Amazon only delivered one head gasket today...so only one head got put on. I decided to put some paint on my timing tab...it's been kind of hard to see the last few times I've set/checked the timing.

Need some recommendations for gelcoat chip repair

I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable folks will come along shortly, but I'm working on gelcoat repairs on my boat as well, for the first time. To me, color matching seems to be the hardest part. I bought my my materials from US Composites - natural (no tint) unwaxed gelcoat, wax additive...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Cylinder heads back from the shop - fresh surfaces, no cracks. Had 2 bad intake valves and they had to re-cut those two seats as well, but now it seals up like it should. Pics below are of the #7 intake valve and how far it got stretched out.

Merc 350 sputters, dies, won't restart after heating up

Common in import automotive. Same thing...just often times resembles a sock, so that's what it gets called.

    Dead injector?

Yes, my guy charges $100 to clean and flow test a set of 8 injectors.

Rebuild of a 3.7 180hp mercruiser have questions

Next time you pull apart a pushrod engine, take an hour and build a rack to put the valve train in. Mine below is just a few pieces of 3/4" plywood screwed together with holes drilled in it. Can't see the numbering too well in this pic, but each position has cylinder number and "I" or "E" for...

Making sure I purchased the correct coil for a 1996 5.7L

Hey! We're tulip twins! I Tuliped #7 intake valve on my boat this past weekend too.

Mercruiser 3.0 TKI engine crank half time - never starts

Yikes. That kind of attitude is surely going to encourage the newbies to keep asking questions and learn.

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

AFR = air fuel ratio. You can monitor it on the touch screen. If you go too lean, boom (like me). I believe the sniper doesn't turn on "learn" mode where it tunes itself until above 160F. I'm not familiar with your engine, but mine had a 140F thermostat, so it would never learn. I switched...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

It does when you tell it to. Unfortunately I didn't start a log when I made that initial run, and you can't start a log without being able to connect to the ECU via the touch-screen (or laptop), so the "No-Data!" issue would have prevented me from starting one had I wanted to.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Mike, yeah, I'm curious as well. I'm going to contact Holley and see if they can help me figure out why the touch screen lost sync, but I'm not planning to play around with it on the boat again until the end of the season. It does get RPM data from the coil negative. I did not have it set up...

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

Just make sure you can monitor AFR at all times. If not, shut it off and get a tow back, or drive back very slow under very light load. @sronza , were you able to get it to "learn" at the lower temperatures that marine engines run at?
