    Prop Recommendation: '85 Merc 50hp 2-stroke - 16' Alumacraft

My mechanic claims the Merc Classic like my 40 up is actually under rated, the actual power output is closer to 45 hp. I know for sure it us much faster and more power than my 1988 40 hp Johnson OB..was. I think the poster has an engine issue as well.

Your backing in at an angle ? Move your stern closer so you can step out onto the dock.

    Tilt Tube maintenance

On mine, I just turn motor all the way one direction and coat with light grease, then turn all the way the other way and do the same. Work it back and forth and good to go. Mine also has a grease fitting in the middle.

    Alarm beeping

Chances are the low oil sensor ( if oil injected) has failed, very common problem. There is a float in the oil tank that has a metal washer that comes off and drips to the bottom and triggers the alarm. There is a tricky repair available or replace the entire tank for big bucks. On mine, I...

    Starter fluid everytime....

And you are doing it the correct way ! I have had no issues with my oil injected Merc, have been using the same oil as it had originally and it works great since 1992.

This seems like a good job for AI

I gave up on finding plugs locally, I order online. The NGK plugs my motor calls for were discontinued. Tried finding of a cross reference with little luck ! Finally contacted an NGK agent and they gave me a replacement number that is supposed to be the substitute plug.. Finally found...

I do similar, but keep tight against the dock, drive on, snap the winch line onto the bow eye, step off onto the dock, walk back to vehicle and finish tightening winch strap then drive to parking lot. When I back the trailer in, I just keep the side guide about a foot to foot and a half away...

    Prop Recommendation: '85 Merc 50hp 2-stroke - 16' Alumacraft

My boat is a 16' Sylvan SC model, weighs around 1000 lbs and has a 4 cylinder 40 up two stroke Merc OB that turns a 10.5 dia x 13 pitch prop at 5500 rpm...his 14" pitch might be close....gotta get that motor running right first !!

its been a sad time the past few weeks.

I have neighbors with younger boys/ men that are getting into fishing and boating. I have given them quite a bit of boating stuff I don't use anymore. Fishing rods and reels, couple MK trolling motors, deep cycle batteries, my old ice fishing gear, but we haven't had fish able ice in a looong...

    New Journey

Nice looking job...I had a 1979 model with a 70 Johnny on it. Great boat and she did 34 mph with two on board. Caught lots of walleye off that boat !!

Forget the prop until motor runs perfect, then see how close to max operating rpm is....then go from there !!

Bayliner 180 BR - 115hp Mercury Outboard - Plane issues

Yep...that is what I do, adjust the pitch until I get max rpm with just me. When passengers are added you should still get decent performance. When my kids were at home, I often swapped my spare prop ( 2" less pitch) when ever they took friends along to play on water toys.

    Yamaha 130 run in barrel

In a barrel your prop (engine load at idle) will be different. You will get your most efficient idle setting being underway on the water

Sure your motor is running at its peak ?? Water logged foam in boat hull ? Not sure it sounds like a prop issue to me. What is max RPM rating from mfgr.

its been a sad time the past few weeks.

My wife is pretty much dissabled, I have been retired for 6 years, we are downsizing and getting rid if stuff, but not much junk. Just stuff we can't/ don't use anymore. Much is still in good condition but folks expect you to give it away.. Well you no longer want it so why should I pay...

    Glasspar Avalon 1966 pricing

Not a guarantee of no rot without testing. Not being coarse here, but at that age, any buyer with boat knowledge will expect to be able to test the structure or they will walk away. Some small core samples would prove the structure is solid.....just warning you, a buyer is going to want proof...

    Glasspar Avalon 1966 pricing

A lot will depend on how much rotted wood is in the transom and stringers. This will be the first thing people will want to know. Is the seller going to allow the structure to be tested ??

    OK I’ve had enough.

Wind, cold, and rain here as well. Power was out for 8 hours but no storm, instead an idiot driver taking out a couple poles at 4am !
