    Question about water in bilge

A cellphone (or a GoPro) on a selfie stick taking video (while the boat is in the water and the engine is running) can help you see in places that might otherwise be hard to reach.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

If you're worried about strength, CSM won't add much anyway. You'd want to add a layer or two of 1708. Personally, I would not bother. I would do as @Chris51280 suggests, though, and make sure the area around the transom is ground free of gelcoat, so that your tabbing has a good layer of pink...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

24 hours is plenty. In reality, overnight would probably be sufficient as long as you’re not stressing it too much.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

When working with any resin, it’s a good idea to use a respirator that filters organic vapors. You likely can buy replacement filters for your current respirator that will work with polyester or epoxy. I made peanut butter using poly resin, cabosil (aka fumed silica) and chopped strand fibers...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Looks good, and quite honestly, you have become the poster child for why you should follow good PPE practices to start with! Looks like you're done with the crummy part. On to the fun stuff!

Help Getting Boat on EZLoader Trailer

On my trailer, the correct depth is when the wheel fenders are submerged. That can change a bit at very shallow (or steep) ramps, but submerged fenders are my indicator.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Holes should be perpendicular to the transom, just like @Chris51280 says.

    Keel Repair

I would probably not take it out again until I fixed that.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

If you're talking about a coat of resin on the inside of the hull, I don't think that gains you anything. I think you're better off leaving the inside of the hull rough; it will have more tooth for the peanut butter to grab onto. I do think there is value in skinning your transom core with...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

When I was trying to decide, I came across some steam/soaking tests of glues, and the glue that bonds the layers in exterior plywood failed before Titebond III did. It's more than sufficient. You could use 'peanut butter' but it's much more of a pain, and for this application, it really doesn't...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

First of all, you really want to have good clean, fiberglass, similar to the pink suction on the left side of the keyhole. I’m not sure you’ll get good adherence to that stuff that’s sort of a light white color on the right side of the keyhole. The standard approach would be to next prepare a...

    Shingles

My dad had shingles and it lasted for years and changed his life in a bad way. I got the Shingrix vaccine as soon as I was eligible. It's about 97% effective in preventing shingles. It's crazy not to get it.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

I don't have any cure for stopping the fiberglass itch. When I was grinding, I wore nitrile gloves and then taped the sleeves of my Tyvek suit to them. Then I wore leather gloves over the top to protect against tears. Not super comfortable, but it did keep the fiberglass out of my sleeves.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Polyester resin uses MEKP as a catalyst. MEKP is nasty stuff, so handle with care.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I would not use pressure treated. Regular exterior grade plywood works fine. Too many potential problems with PT wood, such as interaction with any fasteners/thru-hull fittings or problems with the resin sticking to the wood. Not worth the risk, IMO.

Can i cut my bunks down?

For a boat, 6-7% is probably OK. The 10% is more for things like travel trailers with large frontal areas and large flat sides. 10% on a boat trailer won't hurt, but a bit less won't hurt either. If you get below 6%, that's usually when the trailer starts getting squirrelly at speed.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Looks like the fiberglass hull (outermost layer, 1/4”-3/8” thick) has delaminated from the plywood transom core. Is not the inner layer fiberglassed plywood?
