Need Advice on Replacing Hubs, Drums and Brakes on Boat Trailer

If it were my trailer, I'd probably spend a bit more and get Dexter brake assemblies. I've had store-brand brakes and Dexters, and the latter were noticeably better made. I hate messing with the brakes, so the extra cost to avoid having to work on brakes is worth it to me.

2010 Ford E250 Weight Towing Question

I bet you will have used all of your payload weight by doing the conversion. Add to that the weight of gear and the tongue weight of the trailer, and I’d guess you’ll be exceeding your vehicle’s payload rating. It is pretty common to exceed payload rating before you exceed towing capacity.

Possibly getting a slip - what to know before saying yes

That's a good point; I didn't see that it was a self-bailing deck. That would make a difference.

I/O taking on water while sitting not moving

Even putting your cellphone on a selfie stick and taking video can help find that kind of a leak. Those kinds of leaks are frustrating; good luck!

Possibly getting a slip - what to know before saying yes

Everyone has their own level of comfort, but I could not leave my boat in the water without two bilge pumps wired to different batteries. Given the eyes of the marina workers on your boat, you might be OK with only one pump, but it would make me nervous.

Looking for reviews on 2009 Bayliner 175

It is still a 14 year old boat. What matters most is how the boat was cared for over those years. The only way to tell is a thorough inspection, preferably by someone who knows boats.

You will never guess what product removed creosote,Im stunned!!

I am fairly convinced that bug spray is pretty much a universal solvent. I had a non-aerosol bottle leak in the bottom of my golf bag and it start dissolving the grips on my clubs. I had to regrip all of them.

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Ok, so I dressed the driveshaft with some emery cloth, installed a new water pump (the entire kit, including a new pump housing and the yellow seal carrier that sits below the pump). I reassembled everything per the manual. My drive is not holding pressure. I can put it at 9-10 psi and after...

    SEI Sterndrives

I agree. In contrast, most of what I've seen here is pretty positive toward SEI drives.

I don’t know if these pics help at all, but this is what the upper seals look like.

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

If you spend any time on car or truck forums, you'll quickly realize that there is never any consensus on how often to change oil, which type of oil should be used, and whether there is an advantage to synthetic vs. dino vs. a blend. I personally think it makes the most sense to follow whatever...

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Some more questions... Is this something that needs to be corrected before using the boat this season? How would I evaluate whether the seals are bad enough that immediate replacement is needed? In looking at the service manual for the Gen 2 (#14, section 3A), it looks like changing the seals...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

It‘s cured! Until two days after you launch... at least that’s how it always works for me.

    Grooves worn in driveshaft

Hi all, I am changing my impeller and water pump, and after I split the drive and cleaned up everything, I noticed that there is some wear on my driveshaft just below the splines (see pic below). I can feel the grooves when I run my fingernail over them. I do not believe it was there the last...

How do you guys mix Gas

We boat in some really pristine waters in Northern Ontario and I support efforts to move to cleaner burning 4-stroke motors. (Electric motors would be great, but we are totally off the grid, so I’m not sure how that would work.) We have both an older (1974?) Johnson 2-stroke 9.9 and a new...
