    Flotation foam

Seems like it would be a lot easier and stronger if you just laid new fiberglass, rather than reusing the old piece.

    Need to add trailer brakes

If not boating in saltwater, adding electric brakes would be a snap. A number of online trailer vendors sell complete kits that would make adding electric brakes quite easy. You have the square mounting brackets, so it would be a pretty simple bolt-on procedure.

    Wood working questions

Butting end grain joints with biscuits will be fine. Expansion and contraction really only occurs perpendicular to the grain. If you're gluing and screwing (or nailing) pine boards to a plywood substrate (which is extremely stable), and if the pine is fully dressed with poly or a wiping oil, I...

    Flotation foam

That stinks. What kind of boat are you working on?

    Truck reporting over hitch weight

Yeah, it sounds like payload isn't your problem. I'd be looking at whether you have a class III or IV hitch.

    Truck reporting over hitch weight

In addition to your tongue weight, what is the payload weight in the truck (including passengers)? Lots of light duty trucks run out of payload capacity (e.g., tongue weight plus gear in truck plus passengers weight) before they exceed towing capacity.

    Bellows replacement

For a part as important as bellows, and for one as difficulty to replace, I cannot imagine using anything other than Quicksilver/Mercruiser.

Off-Season Float Battery Charging, 2 Batteries

I keep mine in the boat, on a NOCO maintainer all winter. If a battery is going bad, I'll figure it out soon enough come Spring, and in the meantime I won't have a frozen battery and battery acid in bilge.

    Transom straps

I had a bow chain similar to that pictured in post #12 above, except my turnbuckle was a bit beefier. I hit a really substantial pothole in a construction zone one year and the impact was enough to pop that turnbuckle in half. I don't trust those anymore, so I now use heavy shackles. I shackle...

    Flotation foam

When tearing up the floor in my boat, the foam on top was nice and dry. The stuff down near the hull was wet and soaked. You really want to investigate the foam and stringer near the hull, not near the deck. Good luck!

Maxwell Smart, "Missed it by that much"

Would be really nice if those microwave brackets were universal, wouldn't it?

Here is the link to @todhunter ’s thread. He did great work. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1987-power-play-xlt-185-floors-stringers-and-upholstery.739025/

    Tin boat prices

In our area, the small tinny market seems unpredictable. Even during the pandemic, prices and supplies were erratic... one month, there would be a number of reasonably priced boats popping up on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, then a month or two later, there were almost none available and...

Congratulations! Probably one of the best decisions you could make!

GARMIN UHD2 5CV software updates and inland SD cards are the price.

Whether the cards are worth the money depends on where you boat…the cards for the Illinois and Mississippi rivers are quite good.

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

MyTiny Tach is great. Cheap and accurate.

Pre-project fiberglass boat structural repair planning questions

Personally, I would get as much removal and grinding as possible during cool/cold weather. Doing the demo work when it’s warm out is really not much fun, especially when you’re wearing full Tyvek suit, respirator, rubber, gloves, etc.. Building a secure frame, so you can cover your boat during...

Best value pre-made fiberglass filler alternative to making Fiberglass PB

I did my fiberglassing in my garage, so I mixed Cabosil into the uncatalyzed resin outside, so there was no free-floating Cabosil to worry about. I mixed in the MEKP last, so I didn't need to worry about the mixture kicking off while I was fiddling to get the proportion of chopped strand and...
