    leaking riveted starcraft ('82 MR180)

Allows keel to drain, most all aluminum boats have keel drains. I know you dont want to remove the floor, but much better and safer than filling the hull !! Remove floor the take your boat out with some good paint markers and start marking leaks. Once marked you can check for cracks or leaky...

What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

Getting the trailer set right and at the right depth next to the dock, then power load, but I keep the engine tilted so no washout and low power is all I need. Even my roller trailer will hold the boat, then reach over and snap the winch strap onto bow eye. If I have someone with me, I will...

EZ lube hubs and cold water

Mine have little pressure ports for excess grease to escape so over greasing should not be an issue, but...in regards to the original question....my hub mfgrs recomend letting the hubs cool down slightly before dunking in cold water. When I arrive at the ramp, I put a hand on my hubs right...

Adding Distilled water to battery. what qualifies as distilled?

It all boils down to how much of a gambler are you ?? I know an old guy that refuses to wear seat belts, he is over 80 yrs old. So ...does that mean seatbelts don't really help save lives ?? There are always the exception to the rules....how much do you want to gamble ?? For me, a 1.29 a...

    Super Pro 196

Won't hurt a rhing if you went overboard on the trolling motor power. In fact many claim you save battery power by using a larger than needed thrust !! Food for thought.....

Propeller Recommendation - 1998 Mercury Force 50 HP

In my years of experience with riveted aluminum boats it has worked better with the cav plate just below the hull mabey 1/2" up to 1" below. The keel and rivets tend to make lots of bubbles when traveling at speed and cause ventilation issues.. Just something to consider...

    Back up motor?

From the few I have used, the prop was the biggest difference, but haven't used them all.

    Back up motor?

Many times being weedless is just the type of prop used. Often a non weedless prop can be substituted to gain a little extra thrust if needed. Unless you have a really strong current, your 4 should push you along as long as your not expecting to ski..

    Transon saver/non power trim

Also consider how well the boat (transom) is built. On light duty boats I always use some type of transom support, but on boats with beefy solid transom I don't bother. My current Sylvan has a very beefy transom, rated for 80 hp, no wood, well reinforced double riveted seams, and supports a 40...

Propeller Recommendation - 1998 Mercury Force 50 HP

We are not questioning your ability to setup your tach properly, but the info that comes from Force is not always up to date or accurate. The parameters given to you for setup may not be correct. Based on the numbers posted, something is definetly off...

Propeller Recommendation - 1998 Mercury Force 50 HP

One ince of pitch equals about 200 rpm...so to drop from 7K down to 5300 rpm means an 8" change in pitch.not gonna happen, still willing to bet the tach is off or a spun prop. Can't believe your engine stayed together at 7K rpm......

This will give you a warm fuzzy - NOT!

Try walking in a cops shoes for a couple weeks in a high crime area, especially where gun violence is high !!! Why do you think so many are leaving the cities ?? Extremely few people can live with the daily stress of being shot at any moment !!

Propeller Recommendation - 1998 Mercury Force 50 HP

Bad prop, bad prop hub, motor mounted to high, faulty tach reading....those are your choices !! At 7K rpm, you should be well over 31 mph....gps confirmed speed ?? My guess would be spun hub or faulty tach reading...fact is your engine won't last long unless you figure it out quickly.
