    The Boating Season That Wasn't

Sounds like a terrible headache of a summer. Exactly the sort of thing you should be able to avoid by buying new.

    Boat wiring question

Sounds like you need to trace some wires to see complete the circuit for battery A and which do it for battery B... Or you could put in a simple A/B switch and a common bus bar for the negative wires.

Re-post of Boomyal's Brined Turkey Recipe!

I've tried a number of brines for poultry and I really don't think anything beyond salt and water has much of an effect. None of the other ingredients (besides salt) can penetrate the meat, so they really just make the brine smell good and flavor the skin of the bird. I like wet brining...

    Rainbow Exhaust 5.7 Mercruiser

"that guy" would just go boating and ignore the sheen on the water until the problem kept him from being on the water. Good for you, @Boatbuyingloser for taking care of this and not just ignoring it!

    Wing Dam Carnage

I’ve clipped a wing dam on pool 19. Same thing as you, wind and current caused me to lose track of where I was. Luckily, I only bent my prop a bit.

    Winterizing indoor stored boat.

I would not worry at all about the fuel stabilizer or engine fogging if you're only storing over winter. If it's already in storage, I don't think I'd pull it out to fog and stabilize just for a few months. As for draining the engine block or not, it's a bit of gamble. If the boat is never...

Is something wrong with the jack on my trailer?

On my trailer, lubrication and/or lowering the jack make absolutely no difference. I still have to kick the wheel (or whack it with a piece of 2x4) to get it to rotate. The trailer jack that the current one replaced was the same.

    Wrong hose?

I added a section with a plug to my existing hose. Much easier to drain the engine now. l hated wrestling with that hose.

    Truck for towing

It's pretty rare that you see anyone using a weight distribution hitch for a boat. I think a WDH would cause all sorts of problems when launching and retrieving as the trailer is unloaded and loaded with weight. A truck with more towing capacity and a bit more payload capacity would give you a...

    Truck for towing

Even worse, using Ted's more realistic towing weight of 6500#, even with an 8% tongue weight of 520#, you'll exceed the hitch capacity. Also that truck's payload is approximately 1500-1600#, and you'll be using about a third of that for the trailer's tongue weight. That means you have 1000# or...

    Winter Storage

Anyone who has ever mixed Stabil into a gallon can of gas can see it instantly is diffused throughout the liquid. It does not float on the surface of the gas.

    Unexpected long term storage

I agree. I would not worry about a 3-6 month layup, especially if you use a stabilizer.

What is this on the transom?

I don’t think it will do quite as well as a fishfinder if you’re shooting through the hull, especially for side- or down-imaging sonars.

    Rubberizing boat floor (Fiberglass)

Sorry to hear that, @Hofty. That is really disappointing news.

    Rubberizing boat floor (Fiberglass)

I would also consider contacting the customer service number of the folks that make whatever rubber coating you choose. They might be able to recommend something to use as a waterproofing primer. I'd be curious if they recommend epoxy. Epoxy stick to everything, but not everything sticks to epoxy.

    Winterization

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think water will flow in reverse through that house and out the outdrive; I think the impeller in the outdrive will prevent water from exiting that way. I installed a fitting with a nipple on both the PS cooler hose (between the PS cooler and the outdrive) and...

    Rubberizing boat floor (Fiberglass)

I would not use it. I used Durabak on my deck (over new fiberglass) and I regret it. The rubberized coatings are not that durable in areas that get a lot of traffic or are exposed to rubbing (e.g., around ski locker or hatches, near seating). Even with good prep, they are prone to peeling in...

Coupler pin lock & tow hitch receiver pin lock

I use both kinds of locks, less to prevent theft than to avoid the sort of mischief @dingbat mentions above. At best, my coupler lock is a deterrent that would encourage a thief to look for an unlocked trailer. For the receiver lock, I have the kind with barrel keys like that pictured in the...
