    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

I think most people who tow are likely to run out of payload (i.e., be over the weight limit) long before they hit the max for towing capacity.

Lifting boat off trailer to repair bunk

If you just want to lift it off the bunks to replace it, four bottle jacks and pieces of 2x6 between the jack and boat will do the trick. When I rehabbed and painted my trailer, I built a v-shaped cradle out of 2x4s to support the keel near the bow and used jack stands (with 2x6s) to support the...

    '85 Sierra 16.5' Fiberglass - Floor / Transom / New Layout

Congrats on the new(ish) addition to your family and on getting back to your boat. I've had small ones at home, and I've done a boat restoration, but I'm not sure I could have managed both at the same time!

    Attaching floor to molded stringers

Correct, that is the iBoats shorthand for thickened resin. When done with polyester resin, it normally includes catalyzed resin, Cabosil (fumed silica), and milled fiberglass strands. The ideal consistency is like peanut butter.

    1993 Bayliner capri 1750 vs 1998 Larson 186sei

I have a 1997 Larson 186 SEI. Mine is an I/O, and it also was repowered (before I got it) with a 350 Mag. I had no problem getting insurance and the boat is quite stable at WOT. It had a slight tendency to chine-walk at top speed, but a set of SmartTabs completely cured that. It’s a solid boat...

    Attaching floor to molded stringers

With that much area on the surface of the stringers, PB would probably be sufficient. My boat also has fiberglass stringers, and from the factory, the deck was installed with PB and long staples. When I replaced it, I used PB and stainless steel screws.

    Axle weight capacity

I'm wondering if someone recorded the HIN incorrectly. Most HINs I've seen start with three letters followed by nine numbers. In yours, I wonder if the zero on either side of the 'DA' is actually an 'O'. Can you pull the HIN directly off the boat?

What is this on the transom?

On my boat, I drilled a hole just above and to the starboard side of the spot where the trailer tie-down u-bolts are. I made sure the hole was above the water line when the boat is in water. I then snaked the wire along the back of the transom and up to the steering console. The only tricky...

    Fogging oil won't kill engine

For over-winter layup, I don't bother with fogging anymore.

So i was gifted a boat..

I just googled that boat and it sure looks like a little fiberglass runabout. (And with a company name like Glastex, I'd be further inclined to guess fiberglass.) I agree with @briangcc though, the first thing is to make sure the paperwork is in order so you can actually register the thing. No...

    Re-decking question

If the seams between pieces of decking are not over a stringer (i.e., if the seams are 'hanging'), you can use cleats to support the seam. Just be sure to have at least 2-3" overlapping each side of the seam, so you have plenty of support for the seam and to make sure you have enough space for...

    Wooden stringers

You will be fine with BCX. If you're really worried about strength, just give it a extra layer of fiberglass. I'd hazard a guess that the major of us who have rebuilt our boats used regular exterior plywood rather than marine plywood. Exterior plywood seems to work fine.

    Medically dependent on electricity?

I'm not reliant on electricity, but when my father-in-law was alive, we were trying to figure out ways to get him up to our cabin which is off the grid on Ontario, Canada. He required an oxygen concentrator to breathe, due to emphysema. Bottle oxygen did not last very long, and without a steady...

    Setting transom with epoxy

This is a really good point. In almost all these restorations, it's the transom wood that fails, not the bond supplied by the poly resin. Use whatever you want. Both epoxy and poly will get the job done, and if cared for properly, the boat will outlast you.

    Wooden stringers

You can use either Titebond 3 or epoxy. Titebond 3 has the same or greater resistance to water than the glue used to make exterior plywood, so if you use Titebond 3, you will be fine. As long as you stagger the joints, the plywood stringers will be fine and plenty strong.

    Setting transom with epoxy

I didn't use epoxy, but I think the idea is the same whether using epoxy or polyester. I don't think you need a layer of glass between the transom core and the hull if you have thickened your epoxy sufficiently. I clamped mine similar to what @Baylinerchuck depicts above, slathering on the...

    Replace metal drain plug?

Well, I’m gonna buy the brass nipple and use a blue drain plug. I don’t relish the idea of having to hang upside down into the engine bay to take out the current plug, but it will be good to not have to do that with a wrench in the hands ever again. Thanks for the responses!
