Concerned about Hull Config / Cramped Engine Bay

It seems as though it's only in recent years the selection of OB bowriders has been all that good. Even so, here in the Midwest, I almost never see an OB powered bowrider or cuddy. I have an I/O and I have to say, as ugly as I think a big OB hanging the back of the boat is, I'd strongly...

How do I Stop Loosing Bearing Buddys??

Looks like a strip of rubber wrapped around the seam between the Bearing Buddy and the hub; the clamps anchor the strip to each part so the Bearing Buddy can't fly off.

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

Unfortunately, the tap test really is meaningless unless you're highly experienced, and even then I'm not sure I'd trust it. Drilling test holes is the only way to really know what condition stringers and transom are in. I had no gelcoat cracking on my transom and the outdrive was solid as a...

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

I would not use maple; it has poor rot resistance. Black walnut would be much better.

Concerned about Hull Config / Cramped Engine Bay

Wouldn’t be too bad if you had 6’ long arms with double-jointed elbows.

A couple of ski supreme questions

Finding a used swim platform for a 22 year old boat might be a challenge, unless you're near a large boat salvage yard. Even then, it would be pretty lucky to find one. (Unless you're looking for a generic teak-slats-and-stainless-steel-tube model...) Have you considered new? A Google search...

Concerned about Hull Config / Cramped Engine Bay

I do as much of my own maintenance as possible, but much of what I do would be pretty hard with that set up. That looks really tight.

    What yr is my motor

Your serial number actually ends in "UR" not "WR". The UR makes it a '74. https://boatingrepublic.com/easy-johnson-boat-motor-identification-with-examples/

Sharing fresh water intake from one engine to a second engine

I looked at those impellers after Bondo recommended them some time back. The seemed pretty promising. At the time, it looked like they only made them for Gen 1s. I haven't gone back to see if they make them for Gen 2s now.

How do I Stop Loosing Bearing Buddys??

I think my concern would be, if the Bearing Buddy isn't sufficiently tight enough to resist falling out, it's probably not doing its job, which is to maintain positive pressure in the hub to keep water from infiltrating. You might be able to keep the Bearing Buddy from falling out, but that...

Where Do I Get Marine Quality Non-Slip Strips?

I cut some into strips and put them on the top of the trailer frame near the tongue (a convenient place to climb into the boat when it's trailered) and they have lasted for years.

Where Do I Get Marine Quality Non-Slip Strips?

Those should work fine. I got something similar for my trailer and it works fine.

What age of i/o style boat should I not consider buying?

A Mercruiser drive behind a V6 or V8, for sure. if you can find a boat from the mid-2000s without having to pay an arm and a leg for it, I agree that’s probably your safest bet. In addition to what everyone else has mentioned, and beyond making sure the boat is mechanically solid, you want to...

Are wheel locks the way to go?

Seems ”drawbar” is used for a number of towing devices…

    Snaps hole repair

I used the epoxy method, also, and the screw-snaps have held for years. PC-11 (from ACE Hardware) will work, too. It's pretty similar to MarineTex.

Are wheel locks the way to go?

Honestly, that sounds like an incredible pain in the butt everytime you go boating... are trailer thefts that common in your area? I worry if I need to leave my boat and trailer unattended (and not connected to my truck), but I think a trailer locked to a hitch that is locked to a tow vehicle...

1980 Beachcraft I/O Pretty but Rotten

There are others here with more experience on that type of boat construction, but I think the answer to your question will hinge on (a) whether the stringers are wood+fiberglass construction vs. fiberglass+foam, (b) how far any rot of the deck, stringers, etc., has progressed toward the bow and...

Are wheel locks the way to go?

The draw bar - usually a 2" square metal tube - fits into the receiver hitch on your tow vehicle. The draw bar holds the ball onto which the trailer coupler is attached. Draw bars are held in the receiver hitch with a pin, usually 1/2" or so in diameter. If you're worried about thievery, you...
