Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I agree. If you feel you need extra strength in that area, just add a layer or two of 1708.

    Outdrive Sealant

Is it actually leaking around the transom shield? If not, I'd be inclined to leave it alone.

    3M vs Starbrite

It sounds closer to 5200 than 4200 due to the verbiage about permanency, but I have no clue how well it bonds vs. the 3M products. I'm pretty sold on the 3M stuff...

    Painting a boat trailer

He's painting the trailer, not the boat.

    Torque Roll?

No ideas to help your roll, but I love your new boat!

    Boat weight

And more than likely, the combined weight of passengers, gear and the trailer tongue on the hitch will exceed the vehicle’s maximum payload rating.

    Launching/retrieving with FWD

For the sake of accuracy, the forum rules state “approximately 3 months”. For this thread, that’s not a problem, though.

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

Looking good so far. I really wonder it sistering stringers to the stubs will really save you that much work... if it were me, I'd want to get those old stringers out completely. Too much chance the rot process has started, even if not apparent, to leave them in.

    Winch Strap longevity

My boat had wire rope when I first got it, and I'll never go back to that stuff. As it aged it got corroded, wires started poking out of the cable, which provided lovely little cuts if you weren't careful handling it... no thanks. I'll take a strap any day. @Mim55 , what was your strap rated...

Boat taking on water and I have no idea why

Filling a boat with water, you will never equal amount of pressure that is put on the source of the leak when the boat is sitting in water.

    Gas tank access panel

    Yup, that’s what I used.

Boat taking on water and I have no idea why

This is a very bad idea. It is a good way to introduce water to areas of the boat that shouldn’t get wet and there is a very good chance the leak won’t be revealed.

    Winch Strap longevity

That does seem like an awfully short time... mine has been going strong for at least 6 or 7 years.

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Normally, that is the case here in the US, too. (Unless you find an E85 pump, which in not common in many parts of our country.) To help ease the gas shortage caused by the Russian war in the Ukraine, our government approved adding up to 15% ethanol for this summer. I have only seen a few...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

I thought it was to oxygenate gas to help it burn cleaner. I suspect there also was some political wrangling from corn-producing states to promote it as a possible alternative fuel, and adding ethanol to gas was a toe-hold for that. I think once you get beyond 10% or so, engines designed for...

    Looking for owners manual

Most boat manuals are 90% safety rules and liability disclaimers. They tend to have little or now specific info re: your boat and how it is outfitted. (There are a few exceptions, but not many.) For the most part, useful info about a boat is found in service manuals for the engine/drive...

    Gas tank access panel

I tried to find one on the iboats website, but this place is about the worst search engine I’ve ever seen. I know I bought it from here, but you may have to do some searching. It’s just around access panel that screws into the deck. I cut a hole, maybe 8 inches in diameter, and covered it with...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Far be it from me to disagree with noted energy expert Bob Vila, but I think his claims about the lifespan of ethanol and regular gas don't make a lot of sense to me. First of all, gas stored in a container is only going to be exposed to a certain amount of air (with attendant moisture) unless...
