    Putting in a floor hatch.

    I sealed the edge of my plywood with CSM. I also put in mahogany where the screws will go so that I wasn't screwing directly into the deck. See this post here.

    Can't seem to find the Adults Only thread - it's not showing at the top of the sub-forum. I was looking for the videos that achris put up about tearing down a transom assembly. I've got a Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1, off the boat currently, and was going to break it down to go through it.

    Yep, my stringers lined up with my strakes as well...you can still grind it all the way down. Here's a picture from when I was rinsing out the inside after grinding. You can see where the strakes are - this is where the stringers were.

    I ground the tabbing that makes the "channels" all the way down flush with the hull. I laid new tabbing with the new stringers. Try not to grind through the hull, but even that's repairable.

    I would sand it down past the flaky stuff, lay down a fresh layer of CSM with polyester resin (with wax). What year boat? Even though no soft spots in the floor that you feel, you should drill core samples of the stringers, transom, and floor to check for rot.

    Coming along! You're right - the coupler was toast. I like the Femco valve - almost went with one for my setup, but ended up just going with one of the oil drain kits that has the capped hose. My garboard drain is too small to pass the hose out, so I planned on attaching the end of the hose...

    Drill holes and thru-bolt, then patch holes is one option. Mine is an I/O, so I already had a big hole in the middle of my transom to bolt my braces through. Doesn't look like you'll have that luxury with yours being an inboard. Or you could build braces off of the stringers to add pressure...

    From my measurements on my boat, one layer of 1708 hand laid adds ~0.050" thickness. Agree with the above statement - CSM down.

    Agree with above post. On mine it is just a block of mahogany glassed to the hull, with no other wood around it.

    Just a wild guess, but it may be there to seal off a passage that was required during the manufacturing process but no longer needed for the part to function. I've seen this on throttle bodies before, where they fill a drilled hole with a steel ball and "stake" the aluminum around it to seal it...

    fiberglass on floor

    From my very limited experience, a few coats of gelcoat will definitely smooth out the edges of the overlap, but you'll still be able to see them unless you sand the gelcoat.

    Well, looks like I'll be rebuilding my tow rig's engine instead of putting in a new long block. After a week with no updates, I got in touch with the vendor and they now tell me it's going to be 30-60 days when it was originally advertised as 1 week. Unacceptable, so I think I'm going to ask...

    Question on fuel

    Shop around - you may be able to find a gas station that carries 100% gasoline. It's more expensive than E10, but less expensive than filling up at a marina.

    Yep, 1/4" of play and all those cracks are tell-tale signs it's time to park it until it's fixed.
