Boat and shop cleaned. Now back onto building more stringers...

Need a floor fastener for fiberglass, screws all stripped

Good to know. I was thinking riv-nuts may be a good solution, but it sounds like that's not the case.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

No update for almost a week - sheesh. I got so much done over Christmas break, I feel like a slacker now. Anyhow, I spent the evenings this past week getting the tent set up like I wanted. I built it so that a box fan (on low) blows air in through the keyhole and the tent is attached to a...

Is there a good gelcoat compatible with Epoxy filler?

I'm a newbie, but I think you'll need a polyester based fairing compound if you want to use Gelcoat over the top of it, and won't be able to use the epoxy-based fairing compound. I think you could use the epoxy-based fairing compound if you were going to use paint over it instead of gelcoat.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I finished getting the last of the remaining stringers out today. The center stringer fought me hard. It had 1/2" thick glass in some places, so it took a while to cut out. It was also solid mahogany while the others were just pine plywood. I started building what I hope is my last dust...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Really? I can't ask where to source something on this forum? My other thread was deleted looking for a drop / small piece of Coosa. What's the harm?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Question for the learned folks: My 3/8" rubber fuel line originally was run under the deck, through a bulkhead and stringer, and was foamed in place. To me this is not conducive to future maintenance, and I'm not wanting to drill holes through my stringers and bulkheads if I can help it. See...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Yes, I have been laying the 1708 mat-side-up on plastic sheeting, wetting it out, then transferring to the area on the boat where it will go. For CSM I just wet it out in place.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks, and no problem. I finished tabbing in the two large stringers today. Now both have two layers of 1708 tabbing. All that tabbing and PB took a toll on my resin supply, haha. I'll be ordering another 10-15 gallons next week. Tabbing over the "step" in the bottom of the stringer...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More tabbing the two stringers today. Was hoping to finish, but I underestimated the work required. First I pulled the final brace. Looks cool with nothing holding the stringers up but the glass. Next I made a jig to mark the height to cut the stringers to. It's just a 2x4 with some...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More tabbing on the stringers today. I was able to pull the spreader jigs out of the bilge after the rear section of tabbing cured. I'll pull the jig out of the front tomorrow.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks! Yes, your thread was inspiration and the jig worked great. Good idea on the strip length. Probably not a big deal for the stringers since they won't be seen, but I'll definitely make a mental note for when it is time to do the floors. No, my measurements were at the top where the cap...

    Bilge Pump Design??

Ooh...I like the angles you added. I think I'm going to copy that for my ski locker.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today I went and picked up some ACX 1/2" plywood for my deck and also some mahogany for making cleats to hold the decking to the stringers. Next I set the stringers in the boat and checked my hull width (I had previously measured width every foot from the transom after removing the cap) - it...

    Transom Glassing Opinions??

I'll let the pros answer, but it looks pretty good to me....I dont think I would worry about it.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I got one layer of 1708 laid on both sides of the two stringers today. Tomorrow I'll hopefully start bedding and tabbing these babies in.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More stringer progress. I cleaned up the edges around the scarf joints then laid on my foam template, traced it, and cut it out. The picture below shows the scarf joint after cutting the stringer's shape out. I did not cut the top edge of the stringers yet, but I did trace on where I expect...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I laminated my stringers together today. I started by wetting out both surfaces of the scarf joint then laid one layer of 1.5 CSM and wet it out. I screwed both sides of the joint down to a backer board so the two pieces couldn't spread apart, then clamped it between two small pieces of...
