    Time for my first bellow change, tips?

    I seem to only get about 6-7 years out of the sierra bellows. The failure was sudden and catastrophic when it did too. No signs of dry-rot but the thing shredded on the top side... Kind of like it got stabbed with a knife, not the normal dry rot tear where it's stressed when stored and rips...

    Had intentions of doing some glass work today but the Hazmat pager went off so that ate up most of the day. I built a bracket to hold my remote oil filter to the block and grabbed 2 36 inch barrel fans... that should be enough ventilation imo...

    This happened today, and in the blistering heat.

    Dad's had several boats over the years where the factory used stainless u-bolt with non stainless nuts.... My 4 winns included. Had to replace the bow eye about 20 years ago, used stainless nuts for the second go around and so far, so good. Though it still has loosened up... I'm going to re-bed...

    Didn't take any photos today but sprayed the rest of the transom assembly and glued in the fuel tank floor.

    I know. I did get the merc stainless one. I had a store credit so it didn't hurt as bad. I actually got home from vacation last night and am planning on going over today to finish up the gimbal. If there is any pitting on the original I'm going to just use the new one. I just have a hard time...

    Add me to the keeping the block filled list... thats what they taught dad at merc school many many years ago and that's how he taught me. As for engineers.... I'm one (not at merc). I work opposite a few. I'll leave it at that. :LOL:

    I rattle canned it years ago with just normal flat back. Still looked good though the very bottom of the skeg had worn off. It'll look nice for a bit, I'm pretty careful about the shallow... famous last words...

    Yeah. Not a huge issue on a boat. I have a few pulleys in the garage from the vette... story for another day but bad choices were made and rotors came apart lol.

    So technically you lose a little output with a larger pulley? I'm on vacation and the brain doesn't want to math but I don't think it actually going to make that much of a difference though....

    Acorn anode rubber washer for the lower aluminum bolts.

    I believe there are supposed to be two washers... 12-56085 which goes between the anode and bolt and 12-32620 which goes between the gimbal housing and bolt. The bolt kit comes with the one for the anode and the gimbal one needs to be ordered separately....

    Update: I did some digging through the service manual (#6). 4b-21 has the info I need. Answer is no and probably should've started there. Now to find a bearing....
