Which gasket is better for impeller install, metal or fiber?

The Quicksilver kit I use (817275Q05) has the steel plate with the integrated gaskets; it came with a parts list and instructions. I think I bought mine on EvilBay.

    Larson Composite Transom Leaks?

I would agree with previous replies that the knock test is pretty much worthless with a wood transom. Who knows if it's any better with a composite transom? I sure don't.

Which gasket is better for impeller install, metal or fiber?

Although I agree that Rick seems pretty grizzled, I didn't see anything in his message at which to take offense. His advice is really very sound: don't use silicone and DO get a service manual if you plan to do your own maintenance. I do most of my own maintenance and with a few exceptions...

    Larson Composite Transom Leaks?

You had composite transoms that flexed enough to leak while under way? I’m not sure why, but I thought composite transoms were supposed to be pretty bulletproof.

suggestions on removing fuel from tank

I’d leave it, too. Gas will be fine in 8 months, especially with stabilizer.

    Dry Launch

I bought a set of sealed LEDs from O'Reilly's and swapped out all my trailer lights. Been working great for several years.

    1st boat incoming. Dumb question

Another alternative: get one of those jump pack batteries and keep it in your car. If you get to the river and find the starting battery is dead, use the jump pack to get the boat running. (An on board smart charger will work, too, but you might be buying something that really isn't needed.)

    Creative Trailer Hitch

I see nothing wrong with that setup. Maybe needs some airbags on the sedan. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Bought this boat from Auction need help!

Good luck flipping boats for profit... even in the current market, it's not easy. By the time you buy seats, hand rails (if you can find them), etc., you will not have much room to make money.

Replace chain on floating dock - recommendations?

Hi all, we have a floating dock at our cabin in Ontario. The floating part is comprised of two 10' x 4' sections, attached end to end (with removable dock hinges and pins) to form a finger dock 20' long. This attaches to a stationary dock on shore with hinges and removable pins so we can take...

Bought this boat from Auction need help!

Title/registration should be first thing - if you haven't already done so. No sense working a boat/trailer if you can't legally register it. And @sphelps is right... worry about making sure the structure and motor are sound before worrying about cosmetics.

That is awesome! Maybe you just need some chains on the tires of the dolly? Your a resourceful guy! Well done!

Rain water came in through cover

It's probably true that 90% of boats 15 year of age or older were poorly maintained and stored, so it's eventual they will have problems. Its all about how the boat was cared for.

Ran out or gas, and Gas can

I found some simple spouts on Amazon that seem to work pretty well with my gas cans. For transferring anything over a gallon or so, though, I use a simple siphoning device (e.g., Jiggler) to transfer the fuel; it's much simpler and there is absolutely no spillage.

Rain water came in through cover

No magic to drying it out... sunlight, air movement, etc. are what's needed. It won't hurt your boat to occasionally get wet, because the cover leaked, or some wet swimmers climbed into it, or you got caught on water in a surprise downpour. If a boat gets wet in that manner, but then is stored...

    siphoning fuel from gas tank

I’d leave it. Treat it with some more Stabil if you’re really worried about it. Fears of ethanol are greatly overblown.

Rain water came in through cover

We have inflatable tubes under the cover - in addition to the poles - to keep water from pooling. It’s not watertight, but the tubes help a great deal.
