    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

Yes. I used an ebay kit and flipped the choke arm in my vise instead as it was quite a bit cheaper at the time. There is a hole you have to drill for the internal pull off.

I think some may have? The one I inherited came off a 94 and the choke linkages were set up like it had the heated stove pipe choke and it had the external vacuum pull off... I drilled the carb for a later edelbrock style electric choke and ditched the pull off. It does bolt to the 2519...

In case anyone was wondering, I found the problem. :ROFLMAO: Lost a lot of time this weekend. Had a call for a MVA accident Friday that ate most of the day up and power is still out to the best of my knowledge... thats a big setback. Hopefully I get some good time in Wednesday.

Worked on the grinding some more. Templated the outside stringer... tree knocked out the power so I'm early done for the day... was hoping to get the outside stringers in but it can wait. I also glued the first main stringer.

Did a lot of grinding yesterday. Hoping to start getting stringers in today. I also want to template the false floor. My idea is... glass in the stringers then make the false floor one continuous board from the engine box to the bow. Then glass the bulk heads on top of that. It seems the bulk...

    Easiest Conversion

The bare minimum stringer width needed for a 4.3 or 5.7 from merc is 24 inches if I remember right from my swap. Realistically 26 would be better as it's very tight at 24... I used every inch of it.

That is more or less where I plan to start with my calibration as well. And from what I recall it is pretty close to the mercruiser calibration for the vortec engines.

It is ideal. The plastic is rather thin but hey... it works and keeps everything warm. I have a 5k plug in heater and its at temp in 20 minutes. And thank you. I keep getting worried I didn't roll it enough or I should've used the fin roller more but I didn't saturate it and just used enough...

The edelbrock calibration kit for the V6 is reported wrong by many on here. Calibrate it to service manual 18 or do a search around. The non vortec calibration is close if memory serves but the vortec intake and calibration is way off. You either have a weber or quadrajet. Most likely a weber...

Started scarfing the wood together yesterday. I'm doing an 8:1 on the small outside stringers and a 12:1 on the main center stringers. So far so good.

I've got one like that in the tool box too. Get a chuckle every time I see it. Some customer of dads from before I was born.

FYI, the cast iron 4V vortec bolt pattern intakes exist online for around $300. Little cheaper than the edelbrock unit. Then you just need to jet your carb per the service manual. (If its the 4 barrel unit) The distributor gear is a typical small block gear, you want a melonized one.

So I ended up tabbing in with 2 layers of 1708. One layer of 1708 on the entire transom and tied with a topping of CSM. I think that is more than enough for this.

    Restoring 1988 19’ bayliner capri

The 435 non waxed I am using from US composites dries tack free after a few hours as well... Quick dab of acetone brings it right back though. Seems like if it is warm enough, it'll dry tack free. I am keeping the garage around 85 degrees while working so layup times are reasonable.

So I have one more question to ask everyone. I will be bedding the stringers but I was just wondering, how in the world to join the 2 sheets of ply together to get my full ~14 foot length. I originally planed to scarf them together but seeing how the ply was just in there to support the...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes spreadsheets. I actually forgot the measuring cups on my order hence the syringe.... That chart is nice and very similar to how I've set up dosage charts in the past. I appreciate it. I have just been doing the math in my head or using a calculator but it...

Yes. My first batch I mixed at exactly 1% MEKP... That took 3 hours to kick off. My subsequent batches I mixed at more like 1.2% and I was still getting almost 45 minutes working time before it started to even gel. I understand I can go hotter but being a noob, I prefer the longer working time...

    Building engine mounts

For inline engines it is typically ply or lumber fitted to the bottom of the hull to build a flat pad. I am assuming you mean the 3.7l inline 4 mercruiser? This is pretty typical of most I've come across and this is my own personal boat if gutted... you can see the inline mount in the bottom of...

So I learned a little yesterday. First, even with the garage at 70 degrees it takes a couple hours for the poly to kick off. Second, inside the bubble I can keep it at 80 easily... I will be doing that for speed of layup. At any rate, the transom is adhered to the skin. Shown above is the test...
