Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Ironically all my personal vehicles are GMs... No real particular reason for it other than they tended to have better road manners when road tested to me... However the HD lineup is lighter on tow rating, I agree. If you want the piece of paper to say everything is legal, stick to fiat or ford.

    Popped through the intake.

Went out again today, had to take advantage of this lovely weather. I left nothing up to the imagination this time. I flogged her hard. Not even a hiccup. I'd almost say she's running too perfect as I actually picked up 2 mph and 150 RPMs. I'll be out again tomorrow as I'm hearing low 80s for...

I didn't mention that only because I didn't want to put that in the air.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

The only people who'd give you a hard time about GCWR would be DOT or state police. (Lots of experience both personal and with driving my self) The local guys, and I say this having a bunch of friends all over the state in LEO, don't know much of anything about it. That being said, even DOT and...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Dad actually has one of those max tow 22 F150s. While what it's rated to tow is excellent, it typically runs out of pay load pretty quick before you can really get there when I started running the numbers. I run my boat around with my colorado. Totally different world when compared to half...

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

Only other thing I'll add is that some insurance companies will treat a cab/chassis different than their same 250/350 variety... read cost you more to insure. I haven't had an issue with it though they pushed the issue with our last 2500 but ultimately dropped it. One more thing to consider is all.

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

What was said above is correct. Once you stick a commercial plate on the truck, you technically need the CDL with a trailer behind it regardless of weight. At least thats how the DOT explained it to us

Thinking about an upgrade for the tow vehicle

The emergency response team I am on has both a 6.0 and 6.8 of the same vintage we use... I've run both with trailers about the weight you are looking at and I don't think I would want either personally. 6.0 is just a little weak but it gets the job done. The 6.8 screams with the same load as the...

I didn't catch the exact RPM and I haven't found any real mention of it in the limited literature I have other than it is approximately 200 RPM above wide open RPM. 5100 RPM would be in that ball park based on what I saw. Thanks for the info.

I will also add I've been testing some of the props I have on hand and thought I had a problem the other day. Trying to hit wide open I found it seemed like it did the same thing but I backed down so quick I didn't want to prove it. After doing a little research it seems the thunderbolt 5 had a...

    Popped through the intake.

So, I finally got around to checking everything. No water in separator, no other glaring issues however I did find out that the choke was staying on longer than it should. Like it would choke for 2-3 minutes on a 70 degree day. So I readjusted that and suspect that could've been the issue. It...

That is the one I reference as well. Which is why I say it's pretty good all things considered.

To me, considering a fresh rebuild with basically no idle, 1,3,5 look perfect. 2,4,6 look slightly lean.

I haven't gotten to pulling the water Separator as I'm out of town but I did pull the plugs before I left. Oil looked clean but it was hard to tell. Tray got wet in the bilge as I was waiting for the adapter for my quick drain and dipstick to arrive so it was just a plug. I plan to run it a...

    Popped through the intake.

I'll pull it and check. But I will go out on a limb and say that's probably not going to be the issue. But it's cheap enough and won't hurt and I'll be in there anyway. I'll report back.

All three of us heard it, dad and my buddy would describe it as they thought I clipped something in the water but it originated from inside the boat.... I almost thought it was detonation. Picture tapping a wrench on a piece of hard plastic or something once or twice. I wasn't running it...

    Popped through the intake.

Still seeing a little condensation through the breathers but I'm not getting anything in the oil. Put about 6 hours on it yesterday. Running fantastic. I kind of made the assumption that 3/4 throttle is ~3/4 RPM so I was just doing sweeps and varying speed from idle up to around 3800 RPM and...
