Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

The manifold pressure test included the joint and gasket. Standard wet joint.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

So I'm actually more confused than when I started out. Allow me to explain. This morning I did the following: Pressure test the block to 18 psi. I lost half a psi in about 20 minutes. I noticed the weep hole on the water pump is dripping as is a small amount of air escaping the plug in the...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

True, the LGZ is the more truck oriented one which I have... Where the LGX is the sedan/suv one but the architecture is more or less identical as are most of the important parts. And yes, the turbo stuff blows everything away (have a 3.5 eco boost pickup) though towing the same or similar load...

    Caddy XT5 Towing Capability

I can't comment on the caddy 3.6 in particular as I have the 3.6 in a Colorado but the only real cylinder deactivation problems GM has are with the push rod engines.... Something about intentionally collapsing a pushrod into a lifter just seems to cause problems. And it is ongoing regardless of...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

The static level is worth measuring as the boat does sit lower with a 4.3l than it did with the 3.0l. Again, this is all speculation as I haven't gone further but I have a feeling whatever the issue is will reach out and kind of slap me in the face once I actually start looking beyond what my...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I only use merc when it comes to exhaust.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I agree I don't think the shutters are/were the issue in my current situation. I never got around to testing last night. Ended up getting hung up and now I'm back at work... I will test eventually... it is just difficult right now with the boat not being at my house. It's still suspect that...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

The shutters are actually brand new... While I don't have experience with it I know of people who did... one more than one occasion I've had people with bad shutters hydro-lock their engine just from being anchored and taking a pounding of waves at the back of the boat with the drive tilted...

    your opinion

I'll go on to add that on the later vortec 880 casting blocks (not what we're talking about here) you can sometimes get away without any grinding if you use "stroker rods" which most aftermarket ones are now... however some of the late 880 blocks have shorter bores than a typical SBC so you have...

    your opinion

I'll add that if the crank needs work you end up at the same price for a stroker vs a 350. I picked up a 3.80 inch forged crank for less than $300... between everything else the 388 I am ready to build for my car cost like $600 including the block. All forged internals are overkill for it and...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I mean a little bit more on the port side (the side in question) but nothing I'd call drastic as far as water flow. Even running hard wide open and doing the feel test by hand they both are warm to the touch but never uncomfortably hot. Like 130-150 on the IR gun with 85 degree water running...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Good epoxy will stick to just about anything. Just saying.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

It's the cold setup. But it does seem like an awful lot for just condensation and combustion byproducts. And again... why only the one bank of cylinders? I'd almost feel better if both manifolds had water but one is nice sooty black and the other is whats pictured. I also have the correct 160...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

It's a mercruiser that was re-manufactured prior to my buying it used and then I had my shop re-rebuild it because it had water damage. I might lean that way but I'm only seeing it on one and only one bank and I have the receipt for the rebuild and the part number is the correct grind for a...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Yeah. They were flat. I don't remember what feeler I was able to slide under (why I didn't mention it further in post 1) but it was near the thinnest I have. But a spec of dirt on a gasket could do it... I'm going to leak check then pull apart and check flatness when I'm off work next week.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I've actually never seen that happen but I will take your word on it. I'll start with the manifolds then.

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I thought about it last night and I'm going to rule out 1-5 for the following reasons: Timing would show on both banks which it doesn't Same goes for the cam and more importantly I have the paperwork, it's the correct marine grind for that serial number. Or well... what superceded to it. The...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Well thats just it, I did at least think I knew where I was at and what my heading should have been. And it went from sunny to zero visibilty in about 10 seconds. I had a 2 mile straight shot to the ramp to pull for the year and messed up and won't even argue that was 100% on me. Had I not...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

So I'll preface this with the following: Engine is a fresh rebuild, see my other thread for that journey Manifold and elbows are brand new Mercruiser I checked all sealing surfaces for straightness prior to installing This is what happened on the old engine it seems though those had a confirmed...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

I got caught in a dense fog on the bay probably 10 years ago. I kid you not when I say visibility was less than 10 feet. The bow of my 19' wasn't clear to me at the helm. Needless to say I finally replaced the compass that leaked all its fluid that year. I was driving what I thought was still...
