    spin-on gas filter

Interesting....never had an issue with inline filters, other than people using the wrong size. On my current motor it uses a 3/8" ID fuel line but the previous owner used a 1/4" ID filter, claims the dealer installed it. Had a slight leak issue so I replaced it with a 3/8" inline filter and it...

Had an issue with my wifes Honda. Battery died after many year. Put in a new one and car started right up. However no accessories, no radio, no AC....tried all over to get answers but told the dealer only fix.. Went to local Honda dealer and sure enough, had to reset something then...

    Merc 3.0 Overheating

The 3.0 can have warp issues between #2&3 so a comp check is a good idea. Also be sure the hose from the outdrive to the main water pump is clear. Have had that hose get clogged up in the past. Had my head resurfaced a few years back. Mine was hard to start, not bad enough to overheat

Copper crush washers ok to use?

Most every dealer, BassPro, Cabela's etc stocks those factory fiber washers, I buy them by the dozen so I have them on hand. As far as the screws go, I use what is called a " low head" hex head cap screw to replace drain screws if the dealer doesn't have replacements. They have a large head...

Mariner 45hp Carburetor Leaking after Total Rebuild....stumped!

Is the seat brass or plastic ( neopreme) ?? If a brass one and the brass has nicks, it could be polished out, but if rubber/ plastic or such it needs replaced. Sometimes the needle has the seal and some times the seat has the seal and have saw some where both are just polished brass. Can't...

    Marine Glove Box Needed

Replacing a factory unit is gonna be difficult, very few replacement items are availiable after a production run. Boats are not like cars, boat builders often buy there decorative items like glove boxes, seats, and trims from other mfgrs. Check ebay and such but unlikely to find a match...

    Bad Transom?

True for fiberglass boats, most better quality aluminum boats get much longer if taken care of. My 1992 Sylvan looks like the day it was installed, and my 1983 Islander is just starting to show some signs of softness at the very bottom. The new owner plans on replacing it this comming winter...

    1985 30 hp johnson ( any good?)

How it has been maintained is everything!! How it runs and how good the compression is will tell the story. Check the lower unit/ pull off the prop and check for leaks. Look over the wiring and see if dried out and cracked. Probably some plywood in the transom, if you can reach/ see it look...

    Transom and floor replacement

When I helped a neighbor do his transom, we looked up the factory recomendations for transom thickness for his Mercruiser transom mount. Get your model and look it up, to thick or to thin is not good. Been a while but I seem to remember 2 - 21/4" but can't say for sure. They do give a...

Fuel tank size -2004 Crest 25' Tritoon

Drain it down if you can, then grab a 5 gallon gas can filled with fuel and go for a ride, or..siphon out as much as you can, then run on muffs until it runs iut of fuel. Take it to a station and see how much it takes.. Last summer I bought a different boat with a built in tank. No specs to be...

At End of rope: 1992 Evinrude 120

Cleaning a carb is not the same as rebuilding a carb. When I had my Johnson and decided not to use the vro, system, I had to block something off and plug a hose. Don't remember exactly what all I did, but I do remember blocking off and plugging things.

    Bad Transom?

Ask the owner before you drive there. Be prepared to negotiate if it is. Most older alum boats do leak a little, rivets come loose and seams can leak a little, I would alway have a bilge pump on board, on any boat.. Are you getting an in water test ride ??

1995 Commodore 272 fuel gauge inaccurate

In my 60 years as a boat owner, I have saw only a very few that have been anywhere near accurate !! You might try cleaning the connections, and see if that helps, or pull out the sending unit/ float from the tank. Sometimes the floats get gas logged and don't float very well, or a poor...
