    Mercruiser 470 voltage regulator smoking

    Whoa, $750! That's crazy for a $100 alt and a bracket. I think I paid less than ½ from breezeworks .

    Used Boat Lift question

Also, age of the motors is completely irrelevant. No hour meter on them. Salt water/corrosion? Only parts to wear are the bearings, and no way to tell the condition of the windings I don't think.

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

A kludge fix worries me in these cars because I have no idea if I'm going to **** off a computer. (Just what do you think you're doing Dave? )

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Wow, same problem after battery died on mine. No a/c. Trying to decide if I should buy a new/used one (and take the dash apart to swap out) or try to reflash it (if that's possible)

    Merc 3.0 Sterndrive Winterizing Question

This. If you're running warm salt water through there all summer, you think the corrosion is happening after it's been flushed with fresh water and is sitting dry in the cold?

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

The point is he isn't needing to. Have you done these steps?: 1. Crack fuel line at carb. Fuel when cranked? Proceed to carb rebuild 2. Connect directly to Jerry can. Fuel when cranked? Yes --> upstream problem (restriction, air leak in system). No? Bad fuel pump. Sounds like you've ruled out a...

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

Got one of these style filters on my OB. I love being able to drain the bowl and see what's in there. Also allows me to fill the bowl, --> drain --> repeat until clear. Wasn't aware of an I/o application (because of the plastic), I might look for a conversion kit next year.

Most tumbler type locks are super easy to drill out, and you can then just replace the cylinder

    Replacement Oil Filters

My last foray down the BITOG.com rabbit hole led to the mid/upper level Fram filters as being the best FWIW. I'm using TG on the boat and truck currently. Both cars now use fancy pants euro paper filters.

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

Keep in mind that you don't want to wreck the stud inside there. Not sure how much effort it is to replace, but it won't make your life easier.

    Weather analysis for nearshore fishing

You should know your area better than us. I'm guessing your weather down there always calls for storms in the pm, and they're hit or miss and hyper local. Like us during the summer. If I'm out in the afternoon I keep an eye on the sky and on the radar. If there's a big front coming through...

    Bad coil?

How do you know it's getting richer? Intermittent/non firing cylinders will get you unburnt gas in the exhaust

    Quit My Job . . .

The key is getting to work little enough that it doesn't feel like work anymore, just something to kill the time for a bit

I don't think the heavy stuff is gonna come for quite a while...

The boat will live to see another weekend. The surge was still a foot or 2 from the bottom, so would have taken a good bit more to actually float it off there I think. Maybe 15 or so other boats on lifts around me, I think that jet ski was the only casualty. House damage limited to some lost...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Trouble Starting

So you don't have any power to #5 on the female side of the plug, but do at the gauges? Find the common point of your purple wire under the helm. They daisy chain off the gauges and eventually one goes from the helm to the cannon plug in the stern. Would be strange that you had spark before...
