Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

you need to set the dwell rather than relying on the point gap measurement especially on boat motors , once dwell is set then set the ignition timing. internal shorting in the coil could be the suspect if it has never been changed.. ? what was the reason for doing the work you mention above ...

Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

set the points with a dwell meter then do the timing after that set the carb mixture screws, see how that goes for me that is standard procedure with point dizzys, failing that fixing your issue > . i used to replace the condenser and points at the same time as the condenser can randomly fail...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

100 % agree , upholstery works are expensive and can be a bit daunting when a build is starting, which is why i put all the seats and trim in the back shed 'out out sight out of mind so to speak. the white / beige trim on my boat was badly sun damaged, carpet was mildewed and some cracking on...

if all goes bad and no splash happens ( which i hope it does) a vid of a Tannerite explosion will make a fitting end to the thread :)

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

you are going to find things in older boats that were screwed or fitted before the deck was attached , i found some of this with my Maxum , option was to just get it out as best and in as least pieces as possible , reason being is for use as templates , when time come to reinstall i just used...

    Can't remove 5.7 vertically.

this is what my hull looks like when i do extensive work on or remove the motor , nothing at all in the way , yea , it takes some time to remove and re fit everything but well worth the effort as nothing gets dirty or damaged , and a clear run at the bilge.

    Polaris hawkeye drive belt rattle.

thanks for the post . i had it apart yesterday and i don't recall seeing any shim around the disc area front or rear ,interesting !.? would that mean it would need shimming or the disc is worn ?? . i don't have a manual and being polaris i would guess the only one available will be factory...

    Can't remove 5.7 vertically.

i like to take as much stuff out of the hull to make engine removal as simple as possible, it makes life so much when there is room all around the motor . sometimes its easier than it looks to take the interior of a boat apart ,

    Can't remove 5.7 vertically.

my maxum with 4.3 is like that , as posted > lift the motor from the mounts as high as you can > push the boat back ward , lift some more till it clears , in some places i have only mm space between the hull and motor to clear the hull > set it down on some support's in the hull , some 2x4s...

    Polaris hawkeye drive belt rattle.

that's good to know , the hawkeye has alloy cover , no marks i can see . guess i will just run it as is and see what happens . main thing i am concerned about is i would like to use it to move boats and other stuff in the yard and the RPM the rattle is at is around that speed i will be running...

    Polaris hawkeye drive belt rattle.

thanks for the reply and link , there is no adjustment that i can see possible as it is just a regular CVT set up. sorry for not mentioning build year in original post , it is a 08 model with around 300 hours on the clock 2 WD . due for belt replacement anyway so the overpriced belt was not a...

    Polaris hawkeye drive belt rattle.

recently bought a Polaris Hawkeye ATV to shift stuff around . purchased as a non runner so i could not check drive etc, got it up and running and noticed the rattle on acceleration , with some investigation i found it was the drive belt rattling /slapping around. bought a new belt and throw...

    2001 Suzuki DF140, won't crank, no spark

ha ha :) , PIA , pain in the assss , ATM ,at the moment. the test sequence i am referring is to test the ECU to determine if it needs replacing or repair , not the harness / loom. the cost of having a tech make a visit will be high , probably cheaper to use the parts cannon ( buy parts and...
