    Too big to beach?

i try to avoid beaching where possible with any boat no matter what drive arrangement. a couple of rouge waves and you are stuck risking a chunked up bottom/keel or worse still damaged under water gear. i find with my ski boat tunnel runner direct drive , using an anchor with about 10 feet of...

Need ideas on problem with 5.7L Mercruiser shutting down

? why are you running your motor @ 500 RPM for so long. V8 motors don't like that . if you are going to be idling for such long periods , up the isle to around 750, 800 RPM with fast idle on the shifter, that should overcome your problem.

Johnson 150 Starts Out of Water but Not In Water

that is not what causes the hard to start issue with a 2 smoke when exhaust is lower than the water level. best / easiest way to put it out there is >pressures go all over the joint in the crank case/s , "usually ???" if divider seals are weak or low cylinder compression. most motors have...

I freeze my block so you don't have to!

ha ha Lou , if you can get it out without snapping the plug. SB V8s also have the drain plug and most times they snap before they come loose , i replace them with brass plugs on all motors as a given. some i have had to chip out one little bit at a time , it is ok as the plug material is weaker...

    it has a leak

mystery solved : got in the boat with 4500 psi washer , sprayed all the underwater fitting that were accessible , " not a drop leaked underneath ". Soooooo , with that, it was out with the hose and filling the hull again, i noticed a small dribble around the exhaust outlet , IMO was not enough...

    Are All Boats Repairable?

as posted above , you need to check the extent of the damage before continuing , a good spray down with detergent and a pressure wash will bring out most pitted areas. all boats are reparable , however with an aluminum hull you face the dreaded corrosive affects of salt water + the affects of...

    it has a leak

any ideas on how to find this would be appreciated. 1990s Stevens TR2 ski boat , was V drive converted to center mount , 500 Hp 5.7 Vortec. it leaks in around 10 liters of water per 3 hours in the water , not enough to sink it ,but just enough to pose a threat to my OCD :). although it gives...
