    on your engine the starter can engage while the engine is running. Also noticed that this engine has never been registered, suggest you contact a Volvo Penta dealer and get it registered in your name.

    Yes the seals are pushed out with the bearing. Service manual #47701863 covers the procedure and tools.

    Only people who are looking to "cut corners" do this. One of the manufacturers recommended this for one year. They changed it pretty quick. Because it's not enough.

    You didn’t post a serial number so I can’t tell you if the starter can engage while the engine is running. I would test the dash switch.

    Driveshaft Gear Rotational Torque

    At MerCruiser school, they teach us to loosen the nut 1/2 turn and hold the bearing race closest to the gear the the gear facing up. Now lightly tap the threaded end of the shaft a few times. This will be enough to loosen the rolling torque enough to start over.
