Internal Coolant Flush and Winterizing VP 4.3 GXI-BF

@alldodge and @Lou C thanks for the kind words. I’m pretty embarrassed right now. i have 4 pet peeves about this forum. 1. people who start a post without telling us exactly what product they have. 2. people who assume all 4.3s or all Volvo’s — etc etc — are the same. 3. people who reply...

Internal Coolant Flush and Winterizing VP 4.3 GXI-BF

Ha Ha, I missed that completely! Most everything I posted is wrong for OPs engine. I should have payed closer attention. Most everything posted by people other than me is correct.

Internal Coolant Flush and Winterizing VP 4.3 GXI-BF

Might help if you told us what 4.3 you have. If it's the latest generation ---- most everything posted so far is wrong. The new ones do have block drains, but they are in a new place and look very different. Also the new engines need a special coolant. Use a 13/16 inch wrench, remove the drain...

Winterizing new boat, new to me :)

A506629 is your serial number. You can download for free the OPERATORS MANUAL and SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL at the Volvo Penta website. The info you need will be in them. Note that there will be no mention of using anti-freeze for winterizing. That is covered in a service bulletin. Service...

    Steering Issue

The boat is new enough that you should be able to order a kit from iBOATS that's exactly the same as what you have now. No drilling or cutting to install. A kit costs just a little more than just the cable ---- it's worth it. And no you don't have NFB and you don't want it.

    Steering Issue

Don't think I would recommend a No Feed Back steering system for an I/O with power steering.

    Removing impeller

The operators manual that came with your engine covers this in the impeller replacement section. Volvo calls these o rings “non critical”. Use them or don’t, what ever you find easier.

    Removing impeller

OH NO I'm giving outdated advise. The parts bulletin I listed has been modified by a service bulletin 04-2-80 Dated 04-2015 Currently there is no Volvo Penta special tool for this application. Use Sherwood™ impeller tool 25105, or similar (¾”-16 thread). Sorry for any trouble I might...

    Removing impeller

Maybe ask your dealer to look at this parts bulletin? It's from March 2006 Parts Bulletin AB Volvo Penta P-08-2 1 01 Group Number Version Impeller Removal Tool Models: D3, 32-300, TAMD63, Gas 3.0, 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 8.1 Tool P/N 3843948 fits D3. It also fits current gas...

    Removing impeller

OH, please don't do this! That part number is for the impeller only. Volvo doesn't sell impellers by themself. They only sell kits. It's possible that 21700443 impeller is also used in kits for different pumps and so you might get the wrong gaskets/o-rings if you search that number. Every...

    Removing impeller

I think you might be seeing that this tool comes as part of an D3 maintenance kit. If you look at the kit contents, I'm guessing you will find a different impeller in the kit. Diesel engines usually use bigger impellers like the ones in the videos you posted. But the part number I posted is from...

    Removing impeller

Volvo and others sell a $16.00 USD tool. Google 3843948 Requires about 50mm of space in front of the pump. Easy to use one handed.

Gaurdian mode when engine is warmed up

Might be able to help. if you can share your serial number. A couple of questions. What is your water pressure and RPM at W.O.T. What is the engine RPM when you start cold and hot?

    PCV Question

You only use a PCV if the hose goes to manifold vacuum. If the hose goes where you have it, it should have an dummy fitting in the valve cover.

    Bellows Adhesive application

Interesting, I don’t think I’ve ever seen adhesive recommend for MerCruiser exhaust tubes. What manual did you read that in?

how to remove prop shaft seal on a duoprop DPS-A ?

I think it probably is more expensive to make it this way. Those lips are there to function as a fishing line cutter. Actually seems to work pretty good. The DPS series drives are very different from the DP series drives. Very few parts interchange. The DPS series (depending on serial number...

how to remove prop shaft seal on a duoprop DPS-A ?

I'm guessing you worked on a DP-S ? They have prop seals like the MerCruiser. And those seals can be removed from the rear. But the O.P. posted pictures of a DPS-A bearing carrier. Those seals can only be pushed out the front and the needle bearing will come out with them. The O.D. of the seals...

how to remove prop shaft seal on a duoprop DPS-A ?

@alldodge @Scott Danforth I just got to ask. How many times have you done this job on a DPS-A? That’s a $300.00 bearing carrier that is about to get destroyed.
