    Modern oils can easily go 15,000 in a normal driven car. In the 1980' s I was doing 10,000 miles with super clean oil and no engine wear. FEAR and ego sells more than the truth.

    Crusty does break off in chunks sometimes. Being a erratic alarm might just be chunks or that unreliable old oil system.
