REMOVE the cable or cables on ONLY 1 of the battery terminal posts !! Prevent SPARKS !!!!!!!
Tape ALL the disconnected cable & any smaller wires together............ So 1 not accidently slip away and then cause you a ........This does not work now problem. Good Luck (y)
Just REMBER !!!!! You have to remember the very high battery volts like 20 or higher WILL BURN OUT BULBS Been there. Can damage electronic things like fish finders. Been there 2 times.

THe last thing people do is put on Life Vests. Old people with big bellies. They fall down and roll to 1 side. Over it goes.

Some motors DO NOT have any charging voltage regulator. The battery keeps getting higher any time the motor is above a very fast idle. My Evinrude. I put in a simple switch to open the POSITIVE output lead of the rectifier. I am a very good electrical person.
Have you removed every sparkplug and laid them in a line to see how many cylinders are in trouble ? Have you checked each one for odd deposits on the white insulator ?
Does the engine backfire ? Does it moan during lost power ?
Or is it a silent loss of power ?
