    New purchase SX-M

I'm not sure if this will work on the Volvo because there are some subtle differences between it and the OMC Cobra, but on mine what works like a charm, is sliding a long thin screwdriver in the u joint cross, when it stops from sliding in, just turn the shaft like 1/8" or so either way, and it...

99 Bayliner Trophy 22 foot top speed

Isn’t the Islander an alu boat therefore a lot lighter than fiberglass?

99 Bayliner Trophy 22 foot top speed

Well that might be all you can get from that size engine in a 22’ boat. Mines 20’9”with a pre Vortec 4bbl, WOT is about the same. I weighed my boat & it’s a bit over 4,000 lbs.

    Single point drain

We need more information about your cooling system, you mention a heat exchanger, if there is a closed cooling system on this engine, then the block does not have to be drained since it should be full of antifreeze, but the raw water side has to be drained, and if the manifolds are on the raw...

    Battery charger recommendation for winter

    1) never leave a battery charger un-attended, if there is a malfunction you won't know it till something bad has already happened. 2) check what voltage your charger is actually charging at, I had an older Schumacher that was charging at 16.5V. I would have not known unless I checked. 3) if you...

    New purchase SX-M

That may work because you have enough alu to support the bellows. Now I’m not sure about the Volvo bellows since I think it was changed from the original design (originally both the Cobra & Volvo used the same bellows); but on the Cobra there is one extra fold that faces down to help it flex...

    Battery charger recommendation for winter

No i would charge till that green light is solid and that’s it. If you want you can put the charger on it about every 3 months or so. Should be no load on a stored battery!

99 Bayliner Trophy 22 foot top speed

Even in my 20' I feel the 4.3 is a bit underpowered, in a 22 I think it'd be more so, are you reaching the maximum WOT RPM? If not that should be investigated because a low WOT RPM leads to bad performance and increased engine strain and wear. If it's a 2bbl carb engine about all you can do is...

    SX-M lower unit issues

The other thing you can do is learn how to at least do a pressure test to verify that there is a seal leak. Getting milky oil is not a death sentence to an outdrive as long as it's caught on time. I had this one year on my OMC Cobra and I had it resealed and it's been fine ever since (and that...

That's how they are designed, there is a locking ring that keeps the rod in the holder! https://www.westmarine.com/scotty-powerlock-rod-holder-3522919.html?queryID=936779ebcacf539b4651f450d25ca23f&objectID=3522919&indexName=production_na01_westmarine_demandware_net__WestMarine__products__en_US see?

    New to Volvo family

There are a few places where you can have a loss of water pressure or a clog: Loss of pressure: Rotted rubber water tube grommets inside drive Plastic hose fitting in the bell housing can crack Clog: Crud sucked up into the cooling system can clog the water intake holes in the lower unit and the...

    SX-M lower unit issues

Yes that could definitely due to a bad gimble bearing or ujoints. Spin the prop shaft with the gear case in neutral and see if you hear odd noises or play in the prop shaft bearings.

Smoking Engine and Mercruiser ignition switch question

People think it's OK to use them because marinas that winterize a lot of boats run AF through to save time but they re-circulate the antifreeze so it stays hot enough to keep the stat open. Doing one boat, that is way too much trouble, just drain it manually like you are supposed to, short cuts...

Are 88 to 95 4.3 mercruiser stock roller or flat tappet cams?

You shouldn’t buy unless you can run the engine under load in the water. That’s where cracked blocks & heads will show up.

Also if running on the muffs make sure someone in your house isn’t taking a shower or running the wash; this can drop the water pressure enough that the engine may overheat…
