Depends on what your serial number is . There are three different listings for the 470 depending on serial or year range. You can click on them drill down to fuel pump. looks there are two styles depending on if fuel bowl is up or down...

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Get an ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight and soak the carb in there. You have what looks like a decent core Quadrajet that can be rebuilt. Judging from the looks of the inside would bet your fuel tank needs to come out and be douched out. An electric choke needs 12 v off the ignition on...

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Cheaper and marine are normally not said in the same sentence.... Get a carb rebuild kit from Mikes carb parts and rebuild it. Not hard to do nor does it take any fancy tools Make sure the fuel tank is clean , check fuel filter for debris/water. You may have fuel contamination that will

    Am I under proped?

If accurate this is ok to run. just be aware of where the rpm limit is when you are lightly loaded. and keep it from over reving. when you are propped in the upper or just slightly above recommended wot range the boat will be better performing through out the rpm range. when I had a 3.0 powered...

    4.3LX & Weber Carb Service

Yes if you checked timing and backfire would do a leakdown test . You also can just put compressed air into cylinders and see if it leaks back to intake.

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I did mine 2 years ago, were 18 yrs old and not torn, they were starting to show chaffing on sides where they rub against gimbal but not leaking. Makes a case for oem parts we are up in Union springs on north end, lucky enough my grand parents had a cottage there since early 60’s.

I also have a frankenstein, although not as many different generations. Converted a 4.3 Vortec (cracked block) to a 5.0 with Edelbrock 4 bbl, used wiring and all accessories except ignition module off the 4.3 so I don't have a merc engine serial number. Still using the 4.3 drive and transom so...

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

This is good advice, especially depending on the experience of the OP. I recently bought the tools for the upper used off eBay , seems like several folks like ourselves were selling the OEM tools that they probably used 2-3 times total. In perfect shape for about half the cost of new

    1986 Mercruiser 260 Advice

Non synthetic rotella for the older flat tappet engines. your R drive is close enough to an alpha gen one I would not bother to upgrade. The R/MR/Alpha gen one are basically the same drive with minor revisions. if you had an older MC1 I would do the upgrade. all the mc1 , r, Mr, and alpha gen...

Do you have a picture of the water pump assembly ? VP and Merc used the balancers that GM supplied them so if the generations of engines are the same should bolt up to new balancer.

    Best hitch protector?

Would agree with the above most of what I've seen in terms of hitch locks or the coupler locks used to keep a stored trailer from getting stolen are only good to keep the honest criminals at bay... very easy to break. Wouldn't over think it too much
