Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

The only upgrade I’ve seen folks do is use a synthetic material like Coosa board. Of course this is pricey and the plywood lasted over 20 years …

    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

Yes you should have returned it. Now you have seen enough chit you have to verify everything that was done. At this point you are probably better off getting a 4.3 out of a wrecking yard that is unmolested.

try Kroil, if you havent. It is expensive but if you work on boats and old cars it is the best I have seen.

    Marine Insurance

I also have my boat with Progressive. Have yet to see any huge premium raises in years. Unfortunately if you don't regularly shop it around you screw yourself by being loyal. Biggest rip off I have seen lately is homeowners. Replacement cost drive those up

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

In a word No ... use the merc thickness spec otherwise transom plate will not fit on and driveshaft will go that much less in coupler. 2 x 3/4 ply plus fiber glass on either side is fine as long as it is not rotted

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Look at some of the resto threads on here. Floor usually rots after the stringers and transom which are the structure of the hull. I would be drilling 1/4" holes down low in stringers and transom also in ski locker. Willing to bet they come out mush. Do this before investing any money getting...

Replacing lift cyl power trim hose, how much heat to use?

I know but how do you quantify that??? Mapp or propane is fine. Start with a little try to get it off, add more if needed. Aluminum doesn't take much to expand. As mentioned if you are concerned try a heat gun first. Probably 150-180 F will do it? This is just based off of using a bearing to...

    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

I would call the seller and say it binds up should not bind up at all. If you put it on a credit card you can always dispute the charge. Bottom line if it binds up something is wrong machining wise. Had an issue one time where the big ends of the rods when resized were at an angle to the rod...

Do you get a good accelerator pump shot? Would be thinking the of idle or transition circuit may be clogged. Given the age might be worth rebuilding setting float level etc Have you tried adjusting idle mix screw out (richer) to see if it smooths this out? Willing to bet at factory they were...

    Kicker on a CC?

If you go in remote places sure it makes sense for back up. Im not sure of fuel or lowering the main engine hours it will pay for itself. Downside is it will clutter the stern some and you need to be able to pull it up or tilt up when at speed. Back in the day lake trout fishing with my...
