    Seller says exhaust bellows torn

There can also be situations where the seller is not all that knowledgeable and while there may be things that are broken, the seller is not aware. Some people who do surveys are knowledgeable about the boat systems but not about the engine or outdrive. If I was buying a used boat with an...

I had a trim motor rebuilt by a shop that does motor rebuilding. They did a great job.

    Seller says exhaust bellows torn

The exhaust bellows being torn is no big deal. You can run with a damaged exhaust bellows. But there are lots of other things that could be damaged. The only way to really check out the outdrive is to pull the outdrive, check the u-joints and drain the gear oil looking for metal. If I was...

Need help with winterizing first boat

I have also put the hose to my mouth and just blew the water out. Worked fine. But I use to do it the way you are suggesting

    Drive destroyed

So I bought a Chaparral with a VP DPS-A. Boat ran fine during the sea trial and survey. During routine winter maintenance metal chips were found in the gear oil. Upon further examination it looks like the SS props had been repaired. When the outdrive was pulled apart the forward gear was...

    Water lock

The manifold may need to be tested for a leak. Inspecting does not really do a thorough job. Some people test for leaks by filling the water jacket with acetone and then seeing if the level of acetone drops (I think that's how it's done).

Fuel pump fitting on V8-430-CE-M Engine

You pull that hose to winterize but at the other end of the hose. Not the fuel pump end. Pull the hose down and drain.

So if the plugs were pulled on the right side of the engine water would come blasting out of one of the spark plugs holes. Replace the manifold.

    Old gas in 2024

I still have no tanks or 5 gal containers or 55 gal drums. I am hesitant to put old gas in wife's 2021 Crosstrek.

    Old gas in 2024

I would really like to dump the 50 to 60 gallons of stabilized but old (a year or two) gas that is presently in my boat. Don't see it being used up this fall. But I see no easy way. I don't have an electric fuel pump nor 10 or 12 five gallon red gas containers. My pickup is diesel and my...

Sx gear oil change shouldn’t be this hard

One wonders why it's not Torx or Allen head. But it could be harder. A VP duo prop requires you to remove both props (using the tool) and the drain plug is behind the back prop.

SX-A tilt / trim pump replacement tips?

I brought a Mercruiser trim pump to a place that rebuilds starters and alternators. They rebuilt the electric motor part of the trim pump for a lot less than a new trim pump. Had them do the electric motor part of an winch that mounts on a trunk bumper.

Volvo B20 AQ130 Water in Oil

Most (pleasure) marine engines die of water ingestion rather than wear out. That's why it's important to pull the exhaust manifolds and risers every so many years. Less often fresh water, more often salt water. And in FWC then only the riser needs to be pulled. So the simplest thing to do is...

    Another winterization question

You have not said RWC or FWC. Assume a V8 so a drain plug on both sides of the block. There is the possibility of pockets of water in the block even after draining. Many pour some pink RV antifreeze into the block. It will mix with any water in the block. Couple of gallons. You need to...
