I will settle all arguments once and for all! I BOUGHT A DYNO

For many reasons 1. I want dyno charts. 2. When I do troubleshooting on engines I don't have to take a 1 hr drive to the lake for testing. I think this dyno will pay for fuel costs of towing boats to the lake pretty fast. Also I can't take all my tools to the lake. 3. When I rebuild an engine...

I will settle all arguments once and for all! I BOUGHT A DYNO

Easy. Lets take the rad from a car with a 200 hp motor. 200 hp is 15% of the chemical energy from the gas tank. 30% of the chemical energy from the gas tank gets converted to heat which the radiator dissipates = 400hp. If I put in two radiators, they will have a total dissipation capacity of...

I will settle all arguments once and for all! I BOUGHT A DYNO

Ok, so when I saw a marine dyno for cheap I couldn't help but buy it. Yeah I know a thousand bucks is a lot for a tool for working on a boat, but a new one is 14 grand around here - so I had to buy it. Its a dynomite water brake actually meant for measuring power levels, so now I can actually...

2016 etec 90 hp skip after injectors cleaned and 1 new

A little info here: 1. Did you download the new injector file into the EMM? Two injectors that appear to be identical, and have the SAME part numbers, can have completely different coefficient files. Do yourself a favour and load the file in. You can easily burn up the motor running it lean...

    2005 Johnson 4 stroke

Your motor is a suzuki, commonly called a "johnzuki". Don't buy suzuki oil filters, they love to leak and corrode. Find a cross reference chart and buy a good quality filter for cheaper from the auto parts store. They should be able to get you spark plugs as well. Most DF series parts will fit...

    yamaha fourstroke crank bearings

Alright, for people's reference, the yamaha f150 (at least my 2004 TXRC) shares many parts with many ford and jag engines. Main bearings are the same... they have the ford part number stamped into them (not even a yamaha number) - 1S7G6A338. Hope someone finds this useful! Now I can get a set of...

    yamaha fourstroke crank bearings

oh well, I guess I will pull the old bearings and see if I can see some federal mogul or timken or skf markings and then go from there. Thanks for the advice everyone!

    yamaha fourstroke crank bearings

Yes, but the whole point of me tearing into this engine was to go through the fun of rebuilding a motor and have a learning experience ;)

    yamaha fourstroke crank bearings

Yes, ive heard somewhere that the bearings are federal mogul and that the engine has a lot of ford parts in it... but suspicions aren't enough to get me down to the right tolerances needed to build a reliable engine... anyone ever had success with putting in generic automotive bearings from the...

make sure you are trimming down fully when accelerating from a standstill. If you want more stern lift then go with a 4 blade prop.

    Throttle position sensor

another cause for crazy idle in an optimax is if the fuel/air pressure regulator diaphragm has a hole, it will start dumping fuel into the air rail and make your engine run away... doesn't take much. This is easy to check, press the air side schrader valve and see if there is anything but air in...

    Engine bay blower question

Time for a little rant of mine here... First of all, no engineer will ever bother doing aerodynamics calculations for a bilge blower. Maximum is they will quickly check if they need a 4 inch or 3 inch blower - so basically going with "good enough". And still, I was working on a 26ft boat with a...

2008 150 Optimax Starts and Shuts Off

check for fuel pressure when it stalls. Also use the clear hose test, my guess is that when the motor was re-rigged that an air leak somewhere in the fuel line was created.

Ignition system common failures? 1994 7.4GL

its now fixed, dizzy was turned about a degree and now it runs good. I also found out that it has something called Xact steering, what is that, what is it supposed to do, and what are the components of it?

Ignition system common failures? 1994 7.4GL

Yes, that is what im thinking, a cracked cap causing flashover to another cyl and making it backfire. will probably replace wires and cap and such. Ive got lots of good things to test now, thanks everyone!
