    Agree VP with crank mounted pump, intake hose will be on top

    Go figure, I plug in your serial number and it takes me to an older model and does show it's not in your series. Websites, have to double check them also, and it's coming from Merc OK TB5, TBI and MEFI 3 Need to get the motor timed, then see it that fixes the issue

    Yes there is a check valve on the bell housing and the drive. When separated they should seal each side off

    The 6 cyl verado uses 25W40, the 8 cyl uses 10W30 This is the reason I have 6 gal of 25W40 and 6 gal of 10W30, bought the wrong stuff at first.

    The MEFI can be scanned for codes using a paper clip and 12V resistor LED. In place of the LED can also use a digital multimeter with tone option. Connect paper clip and led then turn key ON and count flashes

    At the base there should be a clamp with one bolt going into the intake. Clamp resembles a Y If it's not there then need to get one. Can obtain from most auto parts store or a junk yard. To time need a timing light (might be able to get a loaner from parts store). If you don't feel up to it...

    Your serial number shows it's a MEFI-1 TBI motor. Timing should be 8* BTDC set in base timing mode Plugs MR43LTS Gap 0.045
