    Spare Stern Drive

Get the info from the model tag and check the final ratio to make sure it's close to what's your ratio is. It took me probably 5 years of classifieds to find my drive. I converted from an electric shift to a mechanical shift on my stringer. IIRC my electric ratio was 1.51 and the other was...

    1976 OMC 190 FORD electrical

Before you go through the nightmare process of replacing the motor. Try removing the tilt quadrant gear from the outdrive first (3 bolts) That will allow the tilt motor to try to spin with no load on it and possibly free it up to get it working. cuz yeah , changing that motor sucks in a bad...

hooking up 4stroke kicker to existing fuel tank (starcraft islander)

If you can get a fuel separator with dual outlets working , that's a great setup. Many folks here use that with success. Mine is just an aftermarket Moeller separator . The main engine always worked just fine, the kicker side is where I had the problems. The kicker is only 5hp and doesn't have...

hooking up 4stroke kicker to existing fuel tank (starcraft islander)

I had this same question and situation come up in my boat. I tried one of those dual outlet fuel / water separators and my kicker kept sucking in air . IDK why that was happening since I have check valves for both engines, but it was. Even with a priming bulb , it would just pull air . So I...

0mc 800 outdrive tilt gear adjustment

take some more pics (a few feet back) of the port side of the upper gear case area . Something is warped bad enough , that it should be fairly noticeable

0mc 800 outdrive tilt gear adjustment

I wonder if its missing the round metal pieces in the trunnions ? sorry for the terminology , I am sure Kenny knows the right name . But when you take the trunnions off , there is a flat metal piece with holes (basically a liner) I wonder if one side is missing , throwing off the alignment ...

    Go Kart paint type

Hello all , quick question on painting metal and frames , etc. I bought my kids a dune buggy / go kart for Xmas. I have it all ripped apart right now and have it sanded down with some medium grit , it is not sanded to bare metal. The current paint is in decent shape , I just want to make...

It puts the bote in the water or it gets the hose?

I have never done timing or dwell with the prop submerged , I am pretty sure you are totally fine to do those running on the hose. I know there are some carb adjustments that are ideal to make when the boat is in the water and in gear

1977 OMC Stringer running hot or ??

Thats my fear when watching your thread , you have signs of no winterization and hopefully you dont have a cracked block but I dont think it would be a shocker at this point. Do you have rust trails from anywhere on the exhaust manifolds or engine block ? has your oil level remained the same...

    Help needed on OMC stringer

I've never taken that shaft out , but I have removed the ball gear shaft of the intermediate. I'm sure it's the bearing cups that are fighting you . It's probably a slide hammer job. I've changed my water pump a couple of times and never had to remove that shaft to do so . I don't have my...

    Help needed on OMC stringer

I believe Bondo answered the main culprit. The impeller is in the bottom of the upper unit and the vanes are curled in one direction. So when you spin it the other way you get alot more friction . If you are worried about it , you can simply pull out the impeller by removing the 4 big bolts on...

1977 OMC Stringer running hot or ??

Good job on the resealing. I have read that the housing will break like that if the drive is stored in the "up" position over the winter. Water collects there and doesn't have a place to drain . So make sure the bow is up and drive down for winter storage.

1977 OMC Stringer running hot or ??

based on your statement about the muffs , it sounds like you have an electric shift NOT an 800. Those electrics shifts went up to 1977 then in 78 they switched over to the 800s . I used to have an electric shift , there are a couple of ways that you can run them on land . 1. buy the OMC...

1977 OMC Stringer running hot or ??

Where do you live ? Does it freeze . Those core plugs don't just fall out on their own. Also post some pics of the outdrive. For any new to you boat , I would pull the drive . Not only to change the impeller but to also look at the splines and grease everything up.

89- 5.8l OMC with Holley 4160 flooding problem

Glad you got it fixed. To these guys point , I understand that it can be tough to get parts and things repaired where you are. But don't give up on that carb , a rebuild kit is cheap and if I remember correctly a power valve change involves removing 4 screws and maybe a razor blade - super...

How to tel if boat will over heat in the water

I know that the original sender that OMC put on my ford was the "standard" scale of OHMs that most gauges used. I know that on newer stuff the different manufacturers use different scales. Does anyone know if the Chevy OMC engines used the same senders ? I honestly dont know. But I would assume...

How to tel if boat will over heat in the water

Me personally , I would be leery of that gauge right off the bat. A nice Faria or marine one is just a couple bucks more. I'm willing to bet that digital gauge was bad right out of the box. I cant comment on that adapter thing that goes on the hose , seems unnecessary to me . Just get a good...

How to tel if boat will over heat in the water

The sender has to be the correct OHMs for whatever gauge you are using. What gauge did you get ? there will be a scale of OHMs for it (Cold to Hot) the Faria gauge I used matched the sender that OMC / Ford originally used . Find out what scale the gauge uses and get the sender that matches...
