    Oil / gas mixtures are not well understood .----Most manuals would say 25:1 on a rebuild..------Hopefully you spent some time lining up the connecting rod caps.

    Most folks do not understand.------The motor does not have a warning horn.-----The motor does not have a shutdown on overheat feature.----It would run till it was too late.-----A wise man would install a new impeller !

    A newer lower unit had been installed by a previous owner.----They neglected to fit the water pump from the 69 model to this newer unit.----Not everything is --" the same "---year to year.-----Upper bearing housing was round on newer gearcases.---Square on original.

    Remove lower unit.----Pump sits on top of it.

    When lower unit is off check exhaust tuner for blockage.

    If you do not know the age / condition of the impeller you should install a new one.

    Only some of the cooling water spits out of those holes.-----Install a new impeller now.

    They all run nice on a hose.----Might be running on 3 of 4 cylinders or 2 of 3 cylinders.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on all leads , yes or no?-----Test run with another tank and hose.

    Get the boat done.-----Motors are easy to find.----And 3 cylinder Mercury motors do not have a cylinder head that can be taken off.----Somebody stated that your motor might have been a Mercury !
