    They all have the timing marks.----Perhaps not timing marks as used on a 283 Chevy.-----So step #1 is find the 2 vertical timing marks ( 3/8" apart ) on the mag plate.---Report when you have found them.

    Pick up a 5/16-NC nut and a 3/8-NC nut.----I think the 3/8" is the one you need.

    I would say a 1988 model.-----A twisted spline would indicate that motor hit something at full throttle.----Best to check this motor over carefully before spending any coins on it.

    Rectifier has nothing to do with the choke.-----Check gear oil.-----Post compression test values here.-----Do not spend any hard earned money until after you do a complete evaluation of this motor.----Install a new water pump impeller before you launch the boat !----Test you overheat warning horn.

    First boat , yes.-----Make sure you have a boat in seaworthy condition.----Then and only then worry about a motor.-----Your motor may be easy to inspect / refurbish / rebuild and good used motors are easy to find.
