    Does a Mercury model 200 (1978) 20hp have a kill circuit

The diagram shows closed. The yellow wire when powered activates the starter solenoid.

Converting 18 hp Nissan to electric start

The oldest boy was on the internet last night looking for a starter motor for one of his generator sets and asked me to look at something on his computer. That same starter number was used on about a dozen different outboards, a couple of walk behind snow blowers along with some other light...

Replace or Repair, where to start?

More than likely ran dry. It does not take long to look like that if ran out of the water or not on properly fitted muffs.

Airless paint sprayer, use old or buy new?

I bought a new one a couple of years ago and it was night and day improved over the one I had that was maybe 15 years old. More control over the patterns and volume and for less money if you figure in inflation than the old one. I just looked up a new Wagner at the big box building supply and...

    Does a Mercury model 200 (1978) 20hp have a kill circuit

Like was said you risk damage to the rectifier or charging circuit is it is run without a battery in the system. I think the wire to ground out the ignition in those older Mercurys was orange. I know it was in my 1976.

    Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs??

Sounds like it may be a simple as a prop change since it has done it since new. Our local dealer dealer is closed til the third week in March. I know if I gave him a call he could tell me close to what pitch you should be using.

    Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs??

Lots of G-3's around here as the local dealer is only nine miles away. My guess is that 115 hp is not being transferred into thrust. Bad prop possible but more than likely motor problem.

Help identifying a boat that I picked up.

Welcome aboard. Sharp looking boat. Your screen name shows you know what you are in for getting it where you want it to be. A lot of time getting there but the end result will be something you will be proud of. I noticed in the one picture your rider is wearing the most uncomfortable type of...

1986 Crestliner 16’ Nordic inheritance rebuild

Had one on my 1990 Nitro I sold last summer. It lasted for 30 years and was still functional. Agree that would be the way to go.

1986 Crestliner 16’ Nordic inheritance rebuild

Noticed a ball valve in your first photo. What are the hoses it is on?

1986 Crestliner 16’ Nordic inheritance rebuild

My choice would be stainless oval head screws and finish washers. You never know when you might have to get under there again. I have an 1985 and there is just enough gap at the bow that will eat up half a tray of small parts if you would happen to spill it while working on an electronic motor...

    Getting started in northern Washington.

The other key words are "It ran good the last time it was run (fill in the blank) years ago."

That is what you are looking for. I would not buy that boat or any boat without taking along someone who is very knowledgeable to point out things you may miss. The seller says it is in excellent shape but just needs the throttle cable adjusted. I have a feeling that he is not doing a fifteen...

    Garmin 840xs screen blacks out

Had a similar problem on my fishing boat Was a few years ago and don't remember which one it was but think it was a Garman. After a couple of shutdowns and turning it on again was watching it while running and it flashed a message "high voltage" then shut down. Got home that night and figured...

    Getting started in northern Washington.

Here are the basic minimum requirements for a pleasure boat in Washington. I have no idea if the Coast Guard also has jurisdiction in the sound which may add additional equipment. I know some of the terms may be confusing and that is the reason for taking an approved boating safety course...

18 foot fibreglass bow rider minimum engine size?

Not knowing the exact boat makes it tough to answer but my gut feeling is 65hp would not do it. Most boat that I have seen that fit that description have had between 115 and 175 hp. The last two workboats I operated were Grady White 19 footers. One with a Yamaha 175 and the other a 200 Merc.

    Random

I am the same way. I can waste hours on you tube watching a big log turned into lumber in a computer controlled sawmill. I watched that fishing line video and all I could think of is that I would hate to be the person that has to fix the machine when it went south. Heck, I have spent a whole...

I agree with Southcogs. Five people plus camping gear, food, coolers and what ever else would be pushing it for that 16 footer. Your're on the right track as far as the type of boat. There is a disease well known to boaters called "two foot-itis." Look closely at different boats in...

New Trailstar Boat Trailer, No Lights

I know that feeling when you find something odd and simple after checking all other options. It reinforces my belief that I am truly a genius.
