    After my boats surgery I would go with line 1 in red and remove the whole cap. Removing all the crap wood/glass will be easiest this way.     Depends and probably the wood will be rotted also. Possible but the point is you are so close at this point it would be replaced also. You would need to build a cradle or structure to keep the boat frame aligned whereas it could develop a hook. Cradles are easypeasy.
