Johnson 140 Sputters at Full Throttle

Seems awfully slow at Accelerating, or are you just slowing pushing the lever? What are the Compression Numbers? Does it has a Spark strong enough to jump a 3/8" gap at ally Cylinders? Are all the Carbs getting Fuel and are Clean Is the Timing set to spec, and the Carbs synced to each other and...

I need help with a 58 super thunderbolt iekhaefer!

They use 4 small Cylinders, not difficult to Rope Start. Even the 6s were easy to pull start. I used to rope start my 84 115(it had bigger Pistons and a longer Stroke) all the time cause I was too cheap to buy a new Battery. On a cold engine it took only 2 or 3 pulls to get it running.

I need help with a 58 super thunderbolt iekhaefer!

Fall of 97. Well that was 26 yrs ago. Can the engine be rotated by hand? My main Concern would be the condition of the Crankshaft and Connecting Rod Bearings, having sat that long. Unfortunately the Only Way to inspect them is to split the Crankcase.

I need help with a 58 super thunderbolt iekhaefer!

Yes it is a 2 stroke, so oil has to be mixed in the Gas. Pure Gas? Do you mean Gas without that Nonsense Alcohol in it? You need to check a few things on it before you try running it. Once you get the Cover off, check the Wiring. Odds are that all the Insulation has cracked/fallen off(Merc...

Mariner 45hp Carburetor Leaking after Total Rebuild....stumped!

Try swapping Plug wire, if the Intermittent spark follows the Wire then that tells you something. If it remains, try swapping a Coil... Check the Plug for any sign of Cracks in the Insulator, or Carbon Tracks on it.

repair entire floor of aluminum boat

Depends on what the Labour Rate is and the Materials required/used. Unless you want to take a Chance with someone who says 'Oh Yeah, I can do that, No Sweat...." you should contact a few Dealers who offer that kind of work. Beware though if they say 'Oh yeah, my brother in law does that on the side.

    Volvo penta 4.3 running rich

You adjusted the Float Height. Is it set to spec? Holley quite often use hollow brass Floats, which occasionally develop pinhole leaks and gas gets inside. Shaking them usually reveals gas inside. You say the Compression Test shows 175, did each cylinder take about the same number of rotations...

    Merc 4.0 1970 or 71 no spark

You are correct. My confusion came about because 72 was when Merc no longer offered Remote Control on the 4 hp. Anyway. The Ignition Coil Part # for that Serail #, is 336-4409A 4

The 4hp didn't come out until 1972. A serial # would certainly help locating the correct Parts List

    What oil to use??

Opti Oil, all Right... I know that BRP's DI Oil, XD100 was also an Amber Colour. Both were pretty much the 2 best Oils to use in DI Engines. I wish they had been Available when I owned a FICHT, might not have went through 2 Powerheads during the Warranty Period.

I still remember the Sweet Aroma of burnt TCW Oil. An added Bonus is, it keeps the Skeeters/Horseflies at Bay.

Fuel mux for 1960 Evinrude 10HP

50:1 is approx 2% Oil, 24:1 would be 4% oil. So depending how one looks at it, either could be called Richer. A 24:1 mix would be Richer in Oil(double), but 50:1 would actually be a bit Richer in Gasoline, 98% vs. 96% If the engine has any Friction Bearings(Bushing), then 24:1 is the safer Option
