    Accurate Horsepower Figures

The Venturi is larger, as the carb has a higher Air Flow. A 5.7 needs a bigger Carb than a 5 liter. Rejetting is not going to make it a bigger carb

I need help with a 58 super thunderbolt iekhaefer!

Weak Magnets in the Magneto, bad Condenser, Something grounding out. I hope it is not the Rotor. If memory serves me right, it is part of the Distributor Shaft, and no longer in Production, though some Dealers might have NOS, on their shelves. Any Corrosion should be removed,

I need help with a 58 super thunderbolt iekhaefer!

There is a bit of Friction in the Propshaft Bushings so sometimes the Prop will rotate a bit when running in Neutral. When in the water the water provides a bit more Resistance, Now you are going to drop the Lower Unit and replace the Water Pump Impeller as you did Damage to it, running like you...

    Merc 650 prop shaft seals

Before you install it, replace the Water Pump Impeller. If it has been sitting 45+ yrs, I wouldn't trust it.

    Quadrajet Secondaries Problem

While the Secondaries on the Q-jet are Mechanical, they are connected to the Throttle thru a spring loaded Linkage. That is because there is a Lock-out that will lock the Secondaries closed when the Choke is not fully open. It is possible that that is why there is no Secondary action

    Merc 650 prop shaft seals

Easiest and likely least costly, is to find a Lower Unit, from a 4 cylinder 75, 80, 85hp. The 79 and later have slightly more Hydrodynamic shape.

New prop & hub yet I still have minimal speed

Take the old Thrust Washer off, and put the one that came with the Hub Kit on in its place. With both Washers on, the Prop is too far back, and not all the exhaust Gases are going thru the Hub of the Prop, some are getting out and causing the Prop to Ventilate(slip) Turning Point should have a...

New prop & hub yet I still have minimal speed

Break Away Pin? Are you referring to a Drive/Shear Pin? Your engine doesn't use that, it has a Splined Shaft and Hub Insert. Disk? Are you referring to the Thrust Washer that goes on the Propshaft and the Prop against it? If either are Missing, or the wrong ones, various things can happen, and...

    Merc 650 prop shaft seals

What is the Height of your Transom, 20" or 15"? The 4 cylinder 65hp used a 2.3:1 gear ratio, most of the inline 6s used 2:1, but some, the 1972 115, showed a 1.78:1 in the Brochure. Count the teeth on the gears and you certainly will be able to figure the Gear Ratio. Here is another Curve, when...

Welcome to iboats It is amazing how many used motors start fine for the Seller, but not for the Buyer, once he gets it home... You have a few electrical issues that need to be fixed. Starter don't normally try to reengage the Flywheel once the engine start and the Key released. The...

Adjust all 3 carbs at once or seperate ?

You have to adjust each individually, for best Idle, in gear. It will take several rounds. If one carb is a lot different than the other 2, then checks for Air Leaks, or High Fuel Level in the Carb. After you get that squared away, you can see how the engine responds to Throttle, again in gear...
