    There was a service bulletin in 1994 that was to move the telltale.---Water pump kit 0432955 has instructions for cooling system modification.

    When you unplug the VRO and oil tank the overheat horn is still in the circuit I believe.

    If it was the overheat alarm , you may have damaged the motor.-----Perhaps not the opinion you wanted to hear.----But it is what you need to act on.

    Well-----I would now do a compression test.----Post the numbers.-----Does the tell tale hose come off the side of the engine block or off the top ??------Any time you put a " new to you " motor in service it needs a new impeller!

    There is a switch on the side of the motor block.----Cuts spark to 3 cylinder for shifting.----Perhaps check it.----Do a compression test as well , post your numbers..----How did it run for you last season ?

    Did you unplug the wiring on the VRO?----Unplug the oil tank ?----Did you install a new water pump impeller ?----And you kept running your motor with the alarm sounding ??

    If you have a 1956 / 57 / 58 model 7.5 HP you can fit the 6 HP gearcase up to the 79 model year.---Just need to know the tricks.-----Finding a prop for those 7.5 models is easy , if you know where to look.-----The ---aomci-----has a free " wanted " section.----Lots of folks there with the parts !

    The 65 model was the last year for the slip clutch inside the gearcase.----Those did not have a rubber hub inside the prop.----Rubber prop cap to hold shear pin.-----Newer ones 66 and on had shear / drive pin in front of prop and threaded prop cap..

    The gearcase / propshaft / slip clutch on a 1965 model 6 HP is not the same as what is found on a 66 model.

    Each carburetor feeds one crankcase and one cylinder only.-----If there is an issue with fuel flow in a carburetor it will be obvious.----I used that simple trouble shooting with a flashlight way back in 1975 and even before that.
