    Fuel starvation conundrum

Good suggestions I thought the same thing. Cut the old fuel line in half to check for delamination but found none. The filter, pump & steel lines from pump/filter to carb functioned fine when tested with the remote tank.

    Fuel starvation conundrum

When I ran the test tank it was hooked to the regular filter so I assumed that filter & the fuel pump were OK. The boat ran absolutely perfect on the test tank. Also I changed the fuel filter after spring start up and dumped the contents into a large mason jar & it was totally clear like it’s...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

As far as vacuum leaks I had the same idea and tested the old (actually well made) pick up tube, no leaks that I could find. It is all alu with the tube threaded into the top fitting, no screen to clog. Today I will rig up a better way to test it with my vacuum pump. The anti siphon valve was...

I don’t think your engine has that extra hose that is referenced there.

    Fuel starvation conundrum

That’s my thought. I may have to get a service to do it for me because it’s about 35 gallons of gas. Gonna ask people I know in the business….

    Fuel starvation conundrum

Ok so all season had a performance problem where the engine was reluctant to plane the boat and max rpm was way low 3800-4000. First I went thru the ignition system & verified total timing advance, then rebuild the Qjet (but no real problems found). Next ran it on the remote tank with fresh fuel...

Simple winterization process / draining 4.3gl

That I can’t say, because my OMC Cobra doesn’t have that set up. Why not post a pic of yours?

Do you have a DIY vacuum / pressure tester?

I have the same ones, very helpful, also used them for other things like checking anti-siphon valves....

Simple winterization process / draining 4.3gl

My OMC manual said the same and I felt the same as you. What I do is disconnect the raw water hose at the 'stat housing and fill that hose with -100 (-50 freeze point) marine antifreeze till it runs out the water intakes on the outdrive. Doing this 20+ years and never had a problem. Yours is...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Very interesting, so you can see besides the location of the lever arm being higher on the outboard transom, with the I/O, the front engine mounts & sheer weight of the cast iron engine in effect could counter act the tendency of the thrust of the prop to try to force the power package up...

How much water pressure is too much, for running on the hose?

Long Island uses ground water & pumping stations so there aren’t a lot of water towers but there are some…

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Been retired 8 years but have worked part time throughout. Wife just retired. It's nice to have time, which is one thing money can't buy!

How much water pressure is too much, for running on the hose?

This is something I have wondered about for years, when running your I/O on the water hose, some say use full water pressure, some say it's too much, use 1/2 open, so I got curious and bought a water pressure gauge. I found that my household water pressure is 90 psi, and it doesn't matter if...

Need to remove pulpit on 1999 Chaparral 290

Agreed, find a different boat. Too bad because it's a good deal. You or whoever does it would have to re-engineer it to include an anchor locker which it doesn't have now, that isn't a simple job. I know here slips are hard to find & expensive, I keep mine on a mooring, the only cost is the...

    Electric Brake Overhaul???

I know they are not common but I did see a set of galvanized backing plates for electric brakes, also if you look for them you can get zinc coated brake drums. These would last much longer than plain painted brake assemblies. Here's some tips from maintaining drum brakes in salt water.... 1)...

    Power steering actuator removal

That is a tight spot, the crow foot or other specialized wrench may get it. I didn't have trouble with those but on OMCs and Volvos they use cotter pins instead of locking tabs that are hell to get out. Rag is covering the Y pipe to keep stuff from falling in it. cotter pin extractor....

    Volvo DP-SM water in oil

I think it's worth having a pressure and vacuum tester, because some seals are not that hard to replace but there are some where you might need a mechanic, esp if the drive won't easily come apart for repairs.
