    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Hi @Lou C, Your boat would be a fairly straight forward conversion IMO. You put a lot of work into saving it, IIRC. IF you like it, it may be less $$$ to convert vs. buying a new(ish) Outboard boat of similar size/style.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

OMG . . . It fits  I jockeyed the boat over a bit and put the gantry in place. There is a couple of inches of clearance on each side as planned. The outdrives came off today. Tomorrow will be the seat assembly and then it will be time to pull the engines.

    Solar charging batteries

Remove the charger and see if the voltage holds or goes down. There may be some new batteries in your future,

    Solar charging batteries

If the voltage numbers are correct, and you assume that the battery has no more than 20% charge after 4 days based on the voltage, then it looks like the charger is running at about 100 milliamps (basically float charging).

    Solar charging batteries

I think on the other battery, where the charger would go on & off, it is probably dead. The 0.49v and then the 14.48v readings are the charger cycling for '0 volt activation', but the battery is not activating. Still a puzzle as to why/how the other battery is taking so long to come up. Might...

Following this battery charging saga . . . here is the progress summary. I do better with pictures

1996 ev 25 hp 2 stroke not peeing

I would check your work in installing the new pump. Usually you would be putting soap on the impeller and housing internals so the impeller has some initial lubrication upon first start. Also, you may want to flush the cooling system with a de-scaler solution. I have a 1980's 25 HP that was...

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

I've always considered the trim (and trim limit) senders a bad design, since that electrical stuff is below the water line, and the associated movement of the outdrive promotes fraying of the wires. Hopefully, you've got it sorted out now. Are you going to keep the Chappy? Did you buy the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

No . . . They may come somewhat close to the braces, but the engines need to clear the swim deck, which is about 2 feet lower than the sides of the boat. It is just that the braces need to clear the sides of the boat so the gantry can be positioned over the engines. See my mock-up below as to...

    Solar charging batteries

If/When the voltage gets up into the 12.5+ range, I would disconnect from the charger to see if the voltage holds. When charging a battery is often difficult to determine how much of the voltage is the battery vs. how much is the charger. Anyway, the rate of charging is suspect. It is almost...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, the driveway is not smooth by any means; it has a pea stone topping embedded into it that makes for a bumpy ride of the casters. The structure does move OK to the extent that it needs to. I plan to move the boat forward and slide the gantry over. Then move the boat back in place. As I...

    Cabinet hanging question.

'finish washers' may be an alternative to give regular screws a way to distribute the load better

    Cabinet hanging question.

I would use screws with a flange. Also use thicker screws, pre-drill as needed

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Pretty much done . . . I got outside early, before the wicked storm starts, and finished up the gantry. . . . . I'm using moving dollies as my "poor man's" casters. . . I might need another couple right under the posts, but we'll see. (1,000 lb rating each) One critical design aspect about...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

We are forecast to have 30 mph sustained winds and 45 mph gusts, today -> Monday. I should have time to finish the upright supports this AM, as the rain will be hitting late morning.

How do I get that last inch?

Here is what may be happening . . . My 24 footer would do this all the time.

How do I get that last inch?

Bunk trailers have a tendency for the boat to 'pull-away' from the bow stop as the boat/trailer are pulled up the ramp. This happens because with the trailer on the ramp and the boat still floating, the hull contacts the forward part of the bunks. As the boat comes out of the water...

    Solar charging batteries

Those voltage readings look a bit suspect. It will be interesting to see what you get with the batteries at their 'resting' voltage (charger disconnected) after a day or 2 of charging. Those are 50 Ah batteries, IIRC, so they should charge in a day or so. I know my AGM batteries, which were...

@alldodge - temporary oak spars, part of the finishing touches will be to replace with 2x lumber when I true-up the uprights. @redneck joe - Snow maybe in January . . .
