    Popped through the intake.

What might be interesting is to do a cylinder balance test. See how much the RPM drops while disconnecting one plug wire at a time…..with insulated pliers of course 😉

    Mercruiser 5.0 MPI hydro locked

If the intake water crossover passage rotted thru or if the gasket leaked that would put water in the cam valley but not the cyls; so water would show up in the motor oil first. If you have water in the cyls the exhaust is a much more likely cause. If you remove the elbows after draining the...

Interesting, the one thing that jumps out at me is some rust on a valve in cyl #5, but that might be nothing, and a bit of scoring in some of the cyls, again, if blow-by is normal might be nothing. This was a re-man engine correct? How many thou was it re-bored?

I have a Lisle gauge, every time when I've checked the compression it's always about the same. No water out of your plug holes? Just wondering about what the plugs from #s 2 & 4 looked like.... You have an inspection camera, might be good to take a look inside...

If you have a compass & can read a paper map you can find your way!

Well those are very consistent, no water out of the plug holes? I think you’ll see higher #s with a hot engine & wide open throttle. Mine was 160-170 but again might just be gauge differences….

The sad reality is that no matter how you look at it increased reliance on tech is making people less intelligent and less capable. They no longer use parts of the brain needed to read maps and solve various problems etc. Smart cars does not equal smart drivers Social skills in particular has...

What we need, most desperately is that all and any regulations be subject to a cost benefit analysis, right now the un-elected regulators have power to mandate things that should not be happening in a democratic society. If people think there is no overall cost to this, well what do you think...

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

Liquid wrench is a solvent not really a rust proofing agent. I think there’s a company that makes galvanized electric drum brakes which would be ideal for some. I use galvanized drums on my trailer and due to the fact that my boat is moored during the season they last a long time. Only get...

Ok I looked at them again on my desktop compared to my phone last nite and I can see much better in detail, #s 2 & 4 look like my #s 1 & 2 when my head gaskets started to leak some years back. Your port side 1, 3, 5 cyls look very clean, by comparison. I recall the plugs in mine with the cyls...

Are the center electrodes on #s 2 & 4 showing some rust near the base? They are right next to each other….

Ive always run mine on 89 or higher octane & it’s never dieseled….

Wondering if it could be an intermittent connection for the module in the distributor or a bad ground…. Last random thought….that cutout switch for the Alpha? I had a bad running off idle problem on my Cobra caused by sticking ESA switches, fixed about 10 years ago!

I’d look carefully at the cap & rotor, plug wires & plugs. Whichever plug is misfiring might tell the tale. Look for one that looks different than the other 5…. Also if you see any oil coming up around the intake manifold bolts check to see if the intake bolts are loose; might be a vacuum leak...

you can still do oil changes, and in most cases, brake pad replacements, and in some, spark plug changes and air filter changes.

the important thing to remember is that you cannot generalize from one example to all families of engines. DI engines have their own set of issues that were a non-issue with port EFI. if you really want to do it right, do consistent engine oil analyses, then you will now what's happening inside...

    Eagle trailer surge brakes

I think some of the posters above are on to a solution; if you’re backing up a steep grade that could be overloading it. In that case I’d use the lock out to keep pressure off the master cyl while backing. I still have the original Tie Down 66 actuator I installed on my trailer 21 years ago...

I always check the temp of the fluid on the stick and on both of our automatic Jeeps I can put a scanner on them to get the actual trans temp. Watch someone check the fluid on a Jeep with the ZF 8 speed def not a fun job. To me simply a way for dealers to make more money. You’re on a trip...

But if the trans developed a small leak as it ages as they ALL do, w/o a dipstick you’re stuck with putting the vehicle up on 4 stands and adding fluid in some inaccessible location right next to a hot cat converter (some Chrysler products with the ZF 8 spd). With a dipstick you’re stand up like...
